So yeah. Islamocritics love to pounce on these three. What is the quranic and sunnah view on taqiyyah-so called 'holy deception' according to critics. And there's a verse (cant remember which) which says dont take nonbelievers as friends over believers. Is this metaphorically ie friends in faith or literally ie social?

As-Salamu `Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh akhi,

What do Taqqiyah and Kitman mean?

With regards to the Qur'anic verse; it does not say that Muslims are prohibited to take non-Muslims as friends, but as gaurdians. There is a big difference. A guardian, according to the English dictionary, means one to whom any person or thing is committed for protection. I imagine that this verse was descended after Abu Talib's death, when the believers became stronger, and Almighty Allah knows best. The verse states, "Let not the believers take the disbelievers as guardians instead of the believers, and whoever does that will never be helped by Allah in any way, except if you indeed fear a danger from them. And Allah warns you against Himself (His Punishment), and to Allah is the final return." [3:28]

Ah right i see thank you for claryfying. According to wikipedia (there are surprisingly little amount of muslim sites that talk about this apart from one shiite) taqiyyah means 'religious dissimulation' where you 'lie' if your life is in danger so its permissable to deny your faith is someone asks you if your a muslim and kitman is basically 'lip service'.I understand that theres a verse which talks about taqiyyah but i want to know what the criteria is. For example how serious does the threat have to be to deny your faith or pay lip service? Eagerly await your reply :P

I'm not 100% sure of what you mean, but I think I understand. :P

Somayya and Yaser, two of the first ten Muslims, were tortured after embracing Islam to a point that they even died from punishment. The cursed Abu Jahal jabbed his weapons in Somayya's private parts and left her and her husband under the unbearable heat of the sun in the scortching desert and placed rocks and metal on them to absorb the heat of the sun. The beloved Messenger of Allah (may Almighty Allah bless him and grant him peace), with all his mercy and caring heart, used to walk past them and, to calm them down and keep them patient, would tell them, "Patiience, of family of Yaser! Verily! You promise is Paradise!"

Somayya was the first ever martyr of Islam and Yaser, her husband, followed. Their son,Ammar, was then forced to denounce Islam or get killed like his parents did. It was too much for him as he just experienced both his parents getting tortured and dying so he just agreed with Quraysh so that they might leave him alone.

He then used to sit alone, away from the rest of the Muslims, until one day, when the Messenger of Allah (may Almighty Allah bless him and grant him peace) noticed him being isolated from the rest of the Muslims, sent some of his noble companions (may Almighty Allah be pleased with them all) to ask him why. He told them of the occurence and they went back and informed the Messenger of Allah (may Almighty Allah bless him and grant him peace). He told them to go back and ask Ammar what was in his heart when he said that. Ammar said that his heart did not even move the slightest bit from the fact that there exists no god but Allah. He then told his companions to tell him that, if they ever do that to him again, to tell them the same thing he told them in the first place.

Islam is supposed to be a religion of ease. The noble Messenger of Allah (may Almighty Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, "Verily! Actions are by their intentions, and every person will get what he intended." However, this is no excuse to neglect prayers and use this Hadith Shareef as an excuse like many who misunderstand it do. :P

Then after this whole incident, a verse was revealed, stating, "Whoever disbelieved in Allah after his belief, except him who is forced thereto and whose heart is at rest with faiith, but such as open their breasts to disbelief, on them is wrath from Allah, and theirs will be a great torment." [16:106]

'In Sha' Allah this helps. May you please explain with more detail what Kitman is?

Kitman means secrecy or concealment. Its basically political camoflauge. Its where you say you agree to the ideas of an authority because if you say you dont then it would result in persecution. So say a ruler proclaimed that he is god and that everyone must acknowledge and worship him can you put kitman to use in that situation or hoeabout a nazi like situation with ethnic cleansing and stuff can you use kitman against this or should you speak out against it.
PS Thanks for claryfying about taqiyyah.
PPS. If my explanation is still not clear enough then theres an article about it on wikipedia

I explained Taqqiyah wrong. It's something, as I've heard, for Shiites that they say with their mouths what their hearts don't believe. Forget that man. It's not even Islamic and I doubt it's true. Jews and the American government want to make the Muslims as parted as can be. The whole Sunni and Shiite thing is their number 1 weapon. A sheikh told me that this is the law that Shiites abide with, but I doubt it completely. Only Almighty Allah knows what the hearts conceal. If you have that thought implanted in your brain, whenever somebody Shiite will do sometihng good or say something awesome, you'll think he's a hypocrite and that he does not mean it. It's all lies. A Muslim is a Muslim. We must unite and help one another, not fight and become worse. Islamophobes, Subhanallah, they know everytihng about Islam the complete opposite to the way it actually is. If Israel, the rich and powerful country, fights Palestine, the weak and poor one, they say it is self defense or resistance fighting. When the Palestinians shoot missiles on the outsiders occupying their land, they are officially terrorists. Man, just fear Almighty Allah and ignore the Islamophobes. Imam Ali (may Almighty Allah be pleased with him) said: "Never have I argued with a knowlegeable person except that I won the arguement, and never have I argued with an ignorant (or prejudiced) one except that he beat me (at the arguement)," meaning they won't accept any new ideas and will only irritate you. And as Almighty Allah said, "Deaf, dumb and blind - so they will not return [to the right path]." [2:18]
