Yusuf Ali:

[030:031]  Turn ye back in repentance to Him, and fear Him: establish regular prayers, and be not ye among those who join gods with God,-

[030:032]  Those who split up their Religion, and become (mere) Sects,- each party rejoicing in that which is with itself!

Dr. Munir Munshey (one of www.answering-christianity.com's authors):

[030:031]  (Stay firm), turning to Him in repentance! Fear Him, establish the ‘salat’, and do not be among the ‘mushriqeen’ _ (those associating partners with Allah).

[030:032]  (Don’t be one of) those who divided their religion into many sects, each happy and contented with what it holds.

Transliteration:

[030:031]  Muneebeena ilayhi waittaqoohu waaqeemoo alssalata wala takoonoo mina almushrikeena

30:32 من الذين فرقوا دينهم وكانوا شيعا كل حزب بما لديهم فرحون

Sher Ali:

[030:031]  So you all turn to HIM, in repentance, and seek HIS protection and observe Prayer, and be not of those who associate partners with ALLAH -

[030:032]  Of those who split up their religion and have become divided into sects, every party rejoicing in what they have.

Shakir:

[030:031]  Turning to Him, and be careful of (your duty to) Him and keep up prayer and be not of the polytheists

[030:032]  Of those who divided their religion and became seas every sect rejoicing in what they had with them

Pickthall:

[030:031]  Turning unto Him (only); and be careful of your duty unto Him and establish worship, and be not of those who ascribe partners (unto Him);

[030:032]  Of those who split up their religion and became schismatics, each sect exulting in its tenets.

Sale:

[030:031]  And be ye turned unto Him, and fear Him, and be constant at prayer, and be not idolaters.

[030:032]  Of those who have made a schism in their religion, and are divided into various sects; every sect rejoice in their own opinion.

Muhammad Al-Hilali & Muhsin Khan:

[030:031]  (Always) Turning in repentance to Him (only), and be afraid and dutiful to Him; and perform AsSalat (IqamatasSalat) and be not of AlMushrikoon (the disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, polytheists, idolaters, etc.).

[030:032]  Of those who split up their religion (i.e. who left the true Islamic Monotheism), and became sects, (i.e. they invented new things in the religion (Bidah), and followed their vain desires), each sect rejoicing in that which is with it.

Palmer:

[030:031]  Turn repentant towards Him; and fear Him, and be steadfast in prayer; and be not of the idolaters.

[030:032]  Of those who have divided their religion and become sects, every party in what they have, rejoice.

Arberry:

[030:031]  turning to Him. And fear you Him, and perform the prayer, and be not of the idolaters,

[030:032]  even of those who have divided up their religion, and become sects, each several party rejoicing in what is theirs.

Khalifa: (why is he here?)

[030:031]  You shall submit to Him, reverence Him, observe the Contact Prayers (Salat), and - whatever you do - do not ever fall into idol worship.

[030:032]  (Do not fall in idol worship,) like those who divide their religion into sects; each party rejoicing with what they have.

Rodwell:

[030:031]  And be ye turned to Him, and fear Him, and observe prayer, and be not of those who unite gods with God:

[030:032]  Of those who have split up their religion, and have become sects, where every party rejoices in what is their own.

Noble Verse(s) 2:191

Yusuf Ali:

[002:191]  And slay them wherever ye catch them, and turn them out from where they have Turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter; but fight them not at the Sacred Mosque, unless they (first) fight you there; but if they fight you, slay them. Such is the reward of those who suppress faith.

Dr. Munir Munshey (one of www.answering-christianity.com's authors):

[002:191]  Kill them wherever you find them. Expel them from where they drove you away. Persecution and oppression are worse than killing. Do not do battle with them near the sacred house of worship (Makkah), unless it is they who engage you in battle there. If they fight you there, then slay them (there). That is the due punishment for the disbelievers.

Transliteration:

[002:191]  Waoqtuloohum haythu thaqiftumoohum waakhrijoohum min haythu akhrajookum waalfitnatu ashaddu mina alqatli wala tuqatiloohum AAinda almasjidi alharami hatta yuqatilookum feehi fa-in qatalookum faoqtuloohum kathalika jazao alkafireena

Arabic (Read from right to left.  Also, all png image files: [1] [2]):

2:191 واقتلوهم حيث ثقفتموهم واخرجوهم من حيث اخرجوكم والفتنة اشد من القتل ولاتقاتلوهم عند المسجد الحرام حتي يقاتلوكم فيه فان قاتلوكم فاقتلوهم كذلك جزاء الكافرين

Sher Ali:

[002:191]  And slay these transgressors wherever you meet them and drive them out from where they have driven you out; for persecution is worst than slaying. And fight them not in and near the Sacred Mosque until they fight you therein. But if they fight you, then fight them. Such is the requital for the disbelievers.

Shakir:

[002:191]  And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from whence they drove you out, and persecution is severer than slaughter, and do not fight with them at the Sacred Mosque until they fight with you in it, but if they do fight you, then slay them; such is the recompense of the unbelievers.

Pickthall:

[002:191]  And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter. And fight not with them at the Inviolable Place of Worship until they first attack you there, but if they attack you (there) then slay them. Such is the reward of disbelievers.

Sale:

[002:191]  And kill them wherever ye find them, and turn them out of that whereof they have dispossessed you, for temptation to idolatry is more grievous than slaughter: Yet fight not against them in the holy temple, until they attack you therein; but if they attack you, slay them there. This shall be the reward of the infidels.

Muhammad Al-Hilali & Muhsin Khan:

[002:191]  And kill them wherever you find them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out. And Al-Fitnah is worse than killing. And fight not with them at Al-Masjid-al-Haram (the sanctuary at Makkah), unless they (first) fight you there. But if they attack you, then kill them. Such is the recompense of the disbelievers.

Palmer:

[002:191]  Kill them wherever ye find them, and drive them out from whence they drive you out; for sedition is worse than slaughter; but fight them not by the Sacred Mosque until they fight you there; then kill them, for such is the recompense of those that misbelieve.

Arberry:

[002:191]  And slay them wherever you come upon them, and expel them from where they expelled you; persecution is more grievous than slaying. But fight them not by the Holy Mosque until they should fight you there; then, if they fight you, slay them -- such is the recompense of unbelievers --

Khalifa: (why is he here?)

[002:191]  You may kill those who wage war against you, and you may evict them whence they evicted you. Oppression is worse than murder. Do not fight them at the Sacred Masjid, unless they attack you therein. If they attack you, you may kill them. This is the just retribution for those disbelievers.

Rodwell:

[002:191]  And kill them wherever ye shall find them, and eject them from whatever place they have ejected you; for civil discord is worse than carnage: yet attack them not at the sacred Mosque, unless they attack you therein; but if they attack you, slay them. Such the reward of the infidels.

Noble Verse(s) 2:217

Yusuf Ali:

[002:217]  They ask thee concerning fighting in the Prohibited Month. Say: "Fighting therein is a grave (offence); but graver is it in the sight of God to prevent access to the path of God, to deny Him, to prevent access to the Sacred Mosque, and drive out its members." Tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter. Nor will they cease fighting you until they turn you back from your faith if they can. And if any of you Turn back from their faith and die in unbelief, their works will bear no fruit in this life and in the Hereafter; they will be companions of the Fire and will abide therein.

Dr. Munir Munshey (one of www.answering-christianity.com's authors):

[002:217]  They ask you about warfare during the sacred month. Say, “Fighting during the sacred month is serious (offense). But according to Allah, far worse is preventing people from the path of Allah, rejecting Him and (blocking access to) the sacred House of worship, and the ousting of its occupants. Corruption (and oppression) is (far) more serious than bloodshed. They will not cease to engage you in combat, till they turn you away from your faith, if they (ever) can. Those who abandon the (true) faith and die as unbelievers, would lose (the worth of) all their (good) deeds in this world and the life-to-come. They are the inmates of the fire, and there, they shall abide forever.

Transliteration:

[002:217]  Yas-aloonaka AAani alshshahri alharami qitalin feehi qul qitalun feehi kabeerun wasaddun AAan sabeeli Allahi wakufrun bihi waalmasjidi alharami wa-ikhraju ahlihi minhu akbaru AAinda Allahi waalfitnatu akbaru mina alqatli wala yazaloona yuqatiloonakum hatta yaruddookum AAan deenikum ini istataAAoo waman yartadid minkum AAan deenihi fayamut wahuwa kafirun faola-ika habitat aAAmaluhum fee alddunya waal-akhirati waola-ika as-habu alnnari hum feeha khalidoona

Arabic (Read from right to left.  Also, all png image files: [1] [2]):

2:217 يسألونك عن الشهر الحرام قتال فيه قل قتال فيه كبير وصد عن سبيل الله وكفر به والمسجد الحرام واخراج اهله منه اكبر عند الله والفتنة اكبر من القتل ولايزالون يقاتلونكم حتي يردوكم عن دينكم ان استطاعوا ومن يرتدد منكم عن دينه فيمت وهو كافر فاولئك حبطت اعمالهم في الدنيا والاخرة واولئك اصحاب النار هم فيها خالدون

Sher Ali:

[002:217]  They ask thee about fighting in the Sacred Month. Say, `Fighting therein is a heinous thing, but to hinder men from the way of ALLAH, and to be ungrateful to HIM, and to hinder men from the Sacred Mosque, and to turn out its people therefrom, is more heinous in the sight of ALLAH; and persecution is worst than killing.' And they will not cease fighting you until they turn you back from your Faith, if they can. And whoso from among you turns back from his Faith and dies while he is a disbeliever, it is they whose works shall be vain in this world and in the next. These are the inmates of the Fire and therein shall they abide.

Shakir:

[002:217]  They ask you concerning the sacred month about fighting in it. Say: Fighting in it is a grave matter, and hindering (men) from Allah's way and denying Him, and (hindering men from) the Sacred Mosque and turning its people out of it, are still graver with Allah, and persecution is graver than slaughter; and they will not cease fighting with you until they turn you back from your religion, if they can; and whoever of you turns back from his religion, then he dies while an unbeliever -- these it is whose works shall go for nothing in this world and the hereafter, and they are the inmates of the fire; therein they shall abide.

Pickthall:

[002:217]  They question thee (O Muhammad) with regard to warfare in the sacred month. Say: Warfare therein is a great (transgression), but to turn (men) from the way of Allah, and to disbelieve in Him and in the Inviolable Place of Worship, and to expel His people thence, is a greater with Allah; for persecution is worse than killing. And they will not cease from fighting against you till they have made you renegades from your religion, if they can. And whoso becometh a renegade and dieth in his disbelief: such are they whose works have fallen both in the world and the Hereafter. Such are rightful owners of the Fire: they will abide therein.

Sale:

[002:217]  They will ask thee concerning the sacred month, whether they may war therein: Answer, to war therein is grievous; but to obstruct the way of God, and infidelity towards him, and to keep men from the holy temple, and to drive out his people from thence, is more grievous in the sight of God, and the temptation to idolatry is more grievous than to kill in the sacred months. They will not cease to war against you, until they turn you from your religion, if they be able: But whoever among you shall turn back from his religion, and die an infidel, their works shall be vain in this world, and the next; they shall be the companions of hell fire, they shall remain therein for ever.

Muhammad Al-Hilali & Muhsin Khan:

[002:217]  They ask you concerning fighting in the Sacred Months (i.e. st, th, th and th months of the Islamic calendar). Say, "Fighting therein is a great (transgression) but a greater (transgression) with Allah is to prevent mankind from following the Way of Allah, to disbelieve in Him, to prevent access to Al-Masjid-al-Haram (at Makkah), and to drive out its inhabitants, and Al-Fitnah is worse than killing. And they will never cease fighting you until they turn you back from your religion (Islamic Monotheism) if they can. And whosoever of you turns back from his religion and dies as a disbeliever, then his deeds will be lost in this life and in the Hereafter, and they will be the dwellers of the Fire. They will abide therein forever."

Palmer:

[002:217]  They will ask thee of the sacred month,- of fighting therein. Say, 'Fighting therein is a great sin; but turning folks off God's way, and misbelief in Him and in the Sacred Mosque, and turning His people out therefrom, is a greater in God's sight; and sedition is a greater sin than slaughter.' They will not cease from fighting you until they turn you from your religion if they can; but whosoever of you is turned from his religion and dies while still a misbeliever; these are those whose works are vain in this world and the next; they are the fellows of the Fire, and they shall dwell therein for aye.

Arberry:

[002:217]  They will question thee concerning the holy month, and fighting in it. Say: 'Fighting in it is a heinous thing, but to bar from God's way, and disbelief in Him, and the Holy Mosque, and to expel its people from it -- that is more heinous in God's sight; and persecution is more heinous than slaying.' They will not cease to fight with you, till they turn you from your religion, if they are able; and whosoever of you turns from his religion, and dies disbelieving -- their works have failed in this world and the next; those are the inhabitants of the Fire; therein they shall dwell forever.

Khalifa: (why is he here?)

[002:217]  They ask you about the Sacred Months and fighting therein: say, "Fighting therein is a sacrilege. However, repelling from the path of GOD and disbelieving in Him and in the sanctity of the Sacred Masjid, and evicting its people, are greater sacrileges in the sight of GOD. Oppression is worse than murder." They will always fight you to revert you from your religion, if they can. Those among you who revert from their religion, and die as disbelievers, have nullified their works in this life and the Hereafter. These are the dwellers of Hell, wherein they abide forever.

Rodwell:

[002:217]  They will ask thee concerning war in the Sacred Month. SAY: To war therein is bad, but to turn aside from the cause of God, and to have no faith in Him, and in the Sacred Temple, and to drive out its people, is worse in the sight of God; and civil strife is worse than bloodshed. They will not cease to war against you until they turn you from your religion, if they be able: but whoever of you shall turn from his religion and die an infidel, their works shall be fruitless in this world, and in the next: they shall be consigned to the fire; therein to abide for aye.

[010:085]  They said: "In God do we put out trust. Our Lord! make us not a trial for those who practise oppression;

Dr. Munir Munshey (one of www.answering-christianity.com's authors):

Noble Verse(s) 60:4-60:9

Yusuf Ali:

[060:004]  There is for you an excellent example (to follow) in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people: "We are clear of you and of whatever ye worship besides God: we have rejected you, and there has arisen, between us and you, enmity and hatred for ever,- unless ye believe in God and Him alone": But not when Abraham said to his father: "I will pray for forgiveness for thee, though I have no power (to get) aught on thy behalf from God." (They prayed): "Our Lord! in Thee do we trust, and to Thee do we turn in repentance: to Thee is (our) Final Goal.

[060:005]  "Our Lord! Make us not a (test and) trial for the Unbelievers, but forgive us, our Lord! for Thou art the Exalted in Might, the Wise."

[060:006]  There was indeed in them an excellent example for you to follow,- for those whose hope is in God and in the Last Day. But if any turn away, truly God is Free of all Wants, Worthy of all Praise.

[060:007]  It may be that God will grant love (and friendship) between you and those whom ye (now) hold as enemies. For God has power (over all things); And God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

[060:008]  God forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for (your) Faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: for God loveth those who are just.

[060:009]  God only forbids you, with regard to those who fight you for (your) Faith, and drive you out of your homes, and support (others) in driving you out, from turning to them (for friendship and protection). It is such as turn to them (in these circumstances), that do wrong.

Dr. Munir Munshey (one of www.answering-christianity.com's authors):

[060:004]  There has been an excellent example for you in Ibraheem, and those with him. They said to their people, “(We hereby declare that) we are free of all guilt concerning you, and the gods you worship other than Allah. We renounce you (and your faith). There has appeared between us hatred, and hostility forever, until you come to believe in Allah (exclusively).” Ibraheem’s remarks to his father was an exception. (He had said), “I will seek forgiveness for you from Allah. (But) I lack the authority to get anything (at all) for you from Allah.” (Ibraheem turned to Allah and said), “Our Lord! Upon You we rely and towards You we turn in repentance! Towards You is our journey back.”

[060:005]  “Our Lord, do not turn us into a test for the unbelievers, and forgive us our Lord! Indeed, You _ and only You _ are the Almighty, the Wisest.

[060:006]  In them _ (Ibraheem and those with him) _ there is certainly an excellent example to follow for anyone looking forward to (the meeting with) Allah on the Last Day. And should anyone turn away, Allah is certainly Free of all want and Worthy of all praise.

[060:007]  Perhaps Allah will (once again) cast friendship and love between you and them _ those you have alienated. Allah has power over all things! Allah is the most Forgiving and the most Merciful!

[060:008]  Allah does not forbid you to be just and righteous towards those who did not go into battle against you (over matters of faith), and did not expel you from your homes. Deal with them justly. Allah loves those who are just.

[060:009]  But Allah forbids you to befriend those who fought against you over matters of faith, those who either assisted others in driving you out of your homes or drove you out themselves. Those of you who befriend them are indeed the evil doers.

Sher Ali:

[060:004]  Indeed there is a good example for you in Abraham and those who were with him when they said to their people, `We have nothing to do with you and with that which you worship beside ALLAH. We disbelieve all that you believe in. There has become manifest enmity and hatred between us and you for ever, until you believe in ALLAH alone' - except that Abraham said to his father, `I will surely ask forgiveness for thee, though I have no power to do aught for thee against ALLAH.' Their prayer was: `Our Lord, in thee do we put our trust and to thee do we turn in repentance, and towards thee is the final return;

[060:005]  `Our Lord, make us not a trial for those who disbelieve, and forgive us, our Lord; for, Thou alone art Mighty, the Wise.'

[060:006]  Surely, there is a good example in them for you - for all who have hope to see ALLAH and the Last Day. And whosoever turns away - truly, ALLAH is Self-Sufficient, Worthy of all praise.

[060:007]  It may be that ALLAH will bring about love between you and those of them with whom you are now at enmity, and ALLAH is All-Powerful; and ALLAH is Most Forgiving, Merciful.

[060:008]  ALLAH forbids you not respecting those who have not fought against you on account of your religion, and who have not driven you out from your homes, that you be kind to them and deal equitably with them; surely, ALLAH loves those who are equitable.

[060:009]  ALLAH only forbids you respecting those who have fought against you on account of your religion and have driven you out of your homes, and have helped others in driving you out, that you make friends with them, and whosoever makes friends with them - it is these that are transgressors.

Shakir:

[060:004]  Indeed, there is for you a good example in Ibrahim and those with him when they said to their people: Surely we are clear of you and of what you serve besides Allah; we declare ourselves to be clear of you, and enmity and hatred have appeared between us and you forever until you believe in Allah alone -- but not in what Ibrahim said to his father: I would certainly ask forgiveness for you, and I do not control for you aught from Allah -- Our Lord! on Thee do we rely, and to Thee do we turn, and to Thee is the eventual coming:

[060:005]  Our Lord! do not make us a trial for those who disbelieve, and forgive us, our Lord! surely Thou art the Mighty, the Wise.

[060:006]  Certainly there is for you in them a good example, for him who fears Allah and the last day; and whoever turns back, then surely Allah is the Self-sufficient, the Praised.

[060:007]  It may be that Allah will bring about friendship between you and those whom you hold to be your enemies among them; and Allah is Powerful; and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

[060:008]  Allah does not forbid you respecting those who have not made war against you on account of (your) religion, and have not driven you forth from your homes, that you show them kindness and deal with them justly; surely Allah loves the doers of justice.

[060:009]  Allah only forbids you respecting those who made war upon you on account of (your) religion, and drove you forth from your homes and backed up (others) in your expulsion, that you make friends with them, and whoever makes friends with them, these are the unjust.

Pickthall:

[060:004]  There is a goodly pattern for you in Abraham and those with him, when they told their folk: Lo! we are guiltless of you and all that ye worship beside Allah. We have done with you. And there hath arisen between us and you hostility and hate for ever until ye believe in Allah only - save that which Abraham promised his father (when he said): I will ask forgiveness for thee, though I own nothing for thee from Allah - Our Lord! In Thee we put our trust, and unto Thee we turn repentant, and unto Thee is the journeying.

[060:005]  Our Lord! Make us not a prey for those who disbelieve, and forgive us, our Lord! Lo! Thou, only Thou, are the Mighty, the Wise.

[060:006]  Verily ye have in them a goodly pattern for everyone who looketh to Allah and the Last Day. And whosoever may turn away, lo! still Allah, He is the Absolute, the Owner of Praise.

[060:007]  It may be that Allah will ordain love between you and those of them with whom ye are at enmity. Allah is Mighty, and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

[060:008]  Allah forbiddeth you not those who warred not against you on account of religion and drove you not out from your homes, that ye should show them kindness and deal justly with them. Lo! Allah loveth the just dealers.

[060:009]  Allah forbiddeth you only those who warred against you on account of religion and have driven you out from your homes and helped to drive you out, that ye make friends of them. Whosoever maketh friends of them - (All) such are wrong- doers.

Sale:

[060:004]  Ye have an excellent pattern in Abraham, and those who were with him, when they said unto their people, verily we are clear of you, and of the idols which ye worship, besides God: We have renounced you; and enmity and hatred is begun between us and you for ever, until ye believe in God alone: Except Abraham's saying unto his father, verily I will beg pardon for thee; but I cannot obtain ought of God in thy behalf. O Lord, in thee do we trust, and unto thee are we turned; and before thee shall we be assembled hereafter.

[060:005]  O Lord, suffer us not to be put to trial by the unbelievers: And forgive us, O Lord; for thou art mighty and wise.

[060:006]  Verily ye have in them an excellent example, unto him who hopeth in God and the last day: And whoso turneth back; verily God is self sufficient, and praise worthy.

[060:007]  Peradventure God will establish friendship between yourselves and such of them as ye now hold for enemies: For God is powerful; and God is inclined to forgive, and merciful.

[060:008]  As to those who have not born arms against you on account of religion, nor turned you out of your dwellings, God forbideth you not to deal kindly with them, and to behave justly towards them; for God loveth those who act justly.

[060:009]  But as to those who have born arms against you on account of religion, and have dispossessed you of your habitations, and have assisted in dispossessing you, God forbideth you to enter into friendship with them: And whosoever of you enters into friendship with them, those are unjust doers.

Muhammad Al-Hilali & Muhsin Khan:

[060:004]  Indeed there has been an excellent example for you in Ibrahim (Abraham) and those with him, when they said to their people: "Verily, we are free from you and whatever you worship besides Allah, we have rejected you, and there has started between us and you, hostility and hatred for ever, until you believe in Allah Alone," except the saying of Ibrahim (Abraham) to his father: "Verily, I will ask for forgiveness (from Allah) for you, but I have no power to do anything for you before Allah ." Our Lord! In You (Alone) we put our trust, and to You (Alone) we turn in repentance, and to You (Alone) is (our) final Return,

[060:005]  "Our Lord! Make us not a trial for the disbelievers, and forgive us, Our Lord! Verily, You, only You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise."

[060:006]  Certainly, there has been in them an excellent example for you to follow, for those who look forward to (the Meeting with) Allah (for the reward from Him) and the Last Day. And whosoever turn away, then verily, Allah is Rich (Free of all wants), Worthy of all Praise.

[060:007]  Perhaps Allah will make friendship between you and those whom you hold as enemies. And Allah has power (over all things), and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

[060:008]  Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity.

[060:009]  It is only as regards those who fought against you on account of religion, and have driven you out of your homes, and helped to drive you out, that Allah forbids you to befriend them. And whosoever will befriend them, then such are the Zalimoon (wrong-doers those who disobey Allah).

Palmer:

[060:004]  Ye had a good example in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people, 'Verily, we are clear of you and of what ye serve beside God. We disbelieve in you: and between us and you is enmity and hatred begun for ever, until ye believe in God alone!' But not the speech of Abraham to his father, 'Verily, I will ask forgiveness for thee, though I cannot control aught from God!' O our Lord! on thee do we rely! and unto thee we turn! and unto thee the journey is!

[060:005]  Our Lord! make us not a trial for those who misbelieve; but forgive us! Our Lord! verily, thou art mighty, wise!

[060:006]  Ye had in them a good example for him who would hope in God and the last day. But whoso turns his back, verily, God, He is rich and to be praised.

[060:007]  Mayhap that God will place love between you and between those of them ye are hostile towards: for God is powerful, and God is forgiving, compassionate.

[060:008]  God forbids you not respecting those who have not fought against you for religion's sake, and who have not driven you forth from your homes, that ye should act righteously and justly towards them; verily, God loves the just!

[060:009]  He only forbids you to make patrons of those who have fought against you for religion's sake, and driven you forth from your homes, or have aided in your expulsion; and whoever makes patrons of them, they are the unjust!

Arberry:

[060:004]  You have had a good example in Abraham, and those with him, when they said to their people, 'We are quit of you and that you serve, apart from God. We disbelieve in you, and between us and you enmity has shown itself, and hatred for ever, until you believe in God alone. (Except that Abraham said unto his father, 'Certainly I shall ask pardon for thee; but I have no power to do aught for thee against God.') 'Our Lord, in Thee we trust; to Thee we turn; to Thee is the homecoming.

[060:005]  Our Lord, make us not a temptation to those who disbelieve; and forgive us. Our. Lord, Thou art the All-mighty, the All-wise.'

[060:006]  You have had a good example in them for whoever hopes for God and the Last Day. And whosoever turns away, surely God is the All-sufficient, the All-laudable.

[060:007]  It may be God will yet establish between you and those of them with whom you are at enmity love. God is All-powerful; God is All-forgiving, All-compassionate.

[060:008]  God forbids you not, as regards those who have not fought you in religion's cause, nor expelled you from your habitations, that you should be kindly to them, and act justly towards them; surely God loves the just.

[060:009]  God only forbids you as to those who have fought you in religion's cause, and expelled you from your habitations, and have supported in your expulsion, that you should take them for friends. And whosoever takes them for friends, those -- they are the evildoers.

Khalifa: (why is he here?)

[060:004]  A good example has been set for you by Abraham and those with him. They said to their people, "We disown you and the idols that you worship besides GOD. We denounce you, and you will see nothing from us except animosity and hatred until you believe in GOD ALONE." However, a mistake was committed by Abraham when he said to his father, "I will pray for your forgiveness, but I possess no power to protect you from GOD." "Our Lord, we trust in You, and submit to You; to You is the final destiny.

[060:005]  "Our Lord, let us not be oppressed by those who disbelieved, and forgive us. You are the Almighty, Most Wise."

[060:006]  A good example has been set by them for those who seek GOD and the Last Day. As for those who turn away, GOD is in no need (of them), Most Praiseworthy.

[060:007]  GOD may change the animosity between you and them into love. GOD is Omnipotent. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

[060:008]  GOD does not enjoin you from befriending those who do not fight you because of religion, and do not evict you from your homes. You may befriend them and be equitable towards them. GOD loves the equitable.

[060:009]  GOD enjoins you only from befriending those who fight you because of religion, evict you from your homes, and band together with others to banish you. You shall not befriend them. Those who befriend them are the transgressors.

Rodwell:

[060:004]  A good example had ye in Abraham, and in those who followed him, when they said to their people, "Verily, we are clear of you, and of what ye worship beside God: we renounce you: and between us and hath hatred and enmity sprung up for ever, until ye believe in God alone." Yet imitate not the language of Abraham to his Father, "I will pray for thy forgiveness, but not aught shall I obtain for thee from God." O our Lord! in thee do we trust! to thee do we turn! to thee we shall come back at the last.

[060:005]  O our Lord! expose us not for trial to the unbelievers, and forgive us: for thou art the Mighty, the Wise!

[060:006]  A good example had ye in them, for all who hope in God and in the last day. But let who will turn back, God truly is the Rich, the Praiseworthy!

[060:007]  God will, perhaps, establish good will between yourselves and those of them whom ye take to be your enemies: God is Powerful: and God is Gracious, Merciful.

[060:008]  God doth not forbid you to deal with kindness and fairness toward those who have not made war upon you on account of your religion, or driven you forth from your homes: for God loveth those who act with fairness.

[060:009]  Only doth God forbid you to make friends of those who, on account of your religion, have warred against you, and have driven you forth from your homes, and have aided those who drove you forth: and whoever maketh friends of them are wrong-doers.

Noble Verse(s) 59:16-59:17

Yusuf Ali:

[059:016]  (Their allies deceived them), like the Evil One, when he says to man, "Deny God": but when (man) denies God, (the Evil One) says, "I am free of thee: I do fear God, the Lord of the Worlds!"

[059:017]  The end of both will be that they will go into the Fire, dwelling therein for ever. Such is the reward of the wrong-doers.

Dr. Munir Munshey (one of www.answering-christianity.com's authors):

[059:016]  (The hypocrites are) like Shaitan! He suggests to man, “Refute the truth! (be ungrateful)!” But as soon as man denies the truth, (Shaitan) says, “I am absolved of your sins! Indeed, I fear Allah, the Lord of the universe.”

[059:017]  The final outcome would be: both of them _ (Shaitan the enticer, and the man accepting his suggestion) _ would be (thrown) in the fire. Both would live there forever! And that is the befitting treatment for the evildoers.

Transliteration:

[059:016]  Kamathali alshshaytani ith qala lil-insani okfur falamma kafara qala innee baree-on minka innee akhafu Allaha rabba alAAalameena

[059:017]  Fakana AAaqibatahuma annahuma fee alnnari khalidayni feeha wathalika jazao alththalimeena

Arabic (Read from right to left.  Also, all png image files: [1] [2]):

59:16 كمثل الشيطان اذ قال للانسان اكفر فلما كفر قال اني برئ منك اني اخاف الله رب العالمين

59:17 فكان عاقبتهما انهما في النار خالدين فيها وذلك جزاء الظالمين

Sher Ali:

[059:016]  Or it is like that of Satan, when he says to man, `Disbelieve,' but when he disbelieves, he says, `I have nothing to do with thee, I fear ALLAH, the Lord of the worlds.'

[059:017]  The end of both is that they are both in the Fire, abiding therein. Such is the reward of the wrongdoers.

Shakir:

[059:016]  Like the Shaitan when he says to man: Disbelieve, but when he disbelieves, he says: I am surely clear of you; surely I fear Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

[059:017]  Therefore the end of both of them is that they are both in the fire to abide therein, and that is the reward of the unjust.

Pickthall:

[059:016]  (And the hypocrites are) on the likeness of the devil when he telleth man to disbelieve, then, when he disbelieveth saith: Lo! I am quit of thee. Lo! I fear Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.

[059:017]  And the consequence for both will be that they are in the Fire, therein abiding. Such is the reward of evil-doers.

Sale:

[059:016]  Thus have the hypocrites deceived the Jews: Like the devil, when he saith unto a man, be thou an infidel; and when he is become an infidel, he saith, verily I am clear of thee; for I fear God, the Lord of all creatures.

[059:017]  Wherefore the end of them both shall be that they shall dwell in hell fire, abiding therein for ever: And this shall be the recompense of the unjust:

Muhammad Al-Hilali & Muhsin Khan:

[059:016]  (Their allies deceived them) like Shaitan (Satan), when he says to man: "Disbelieve in Allah." But when (man) disbelieves in Allah, Shaitan (Satan) says: "I am free of you, I fear Allah, the Lord of the Alameen (mankind, jinns and all that exists)!"

[059:017]  So the end of both will be that they will be in the Fire, abiding therein. Such is the recompense of the Zalimoon (i.e. polytheists, wrong-doers, disbelievers in Allah and in His Oneness, etc.).

Palmer:

[059:016]  Like unto the devil when he said to man, 'Disbelieve.' But when he disbelieved, he said, 'Verily, I am clear of thee! Verily, I fear God the Lord of the worlds!'

[059:017]  And the end of them both shall be that they shall both be in the Fire, to dwell therein for aye! for that is the reward of the unjust!

Arberry:

[059:016]  Like Satan, when he said to man, 'Disbelieve'; then, when he disbelieved, he said, 'Surely I am quit of you. Surely I fear God, the Lord of all Being.'

[059:017]  Their end is, both are in the Fire, there dwelling forever; that is the recompense of the evildoers.

Khalifa: (why is he here?)

[059:016]  They are like the devil: he says to the human being, "Disbelieve," then as soon as he disbelieves, he says, "I disown you. I fear GOD, Lord of the universe."

[059:017]  The destiny for both of them is the Hellfire, wherein they abide forever. This is the requital for the transgressors.

Rodwell:

[059:016]  Like Satan when he saith to a man, "Be an infidel:" and when he hath become an infidel, he saith, "I share not thy guilt: verily, I fear God the Lord of the Worlds."

[059:017]  Of both, therefore, shall the end be that they dwell for ever in the fire: This is the recompense of the evil doers.

Noble Verse(s) 85:10

Yusuf Ali:

[085:010]  Those who persecute (or draw into temptation) the Believers, men and women, and do not turn in repentance, will have the Penalty of Hell: They will have the Penalty of the Burning Fire.

Dr. Munir Munshey (one of www.answering-christianity.com's authors):

[085:010]  Indeed, those who persecuted the believing men and women and then failed to repent, would (certainly) face the torture of hell. For them, is the punishment of the blazing fire.

Transliteration:

[085:010]  Inna allatheena fatanoo almu/mineena waalmu/minati thumma lam yatooboo falahum AAathabu jahannama walahum AAathabu alhareeqi

Arabic (Read from right to left.  Also, all png image files: [1] [2]):

85:10 ان الذين فتنوا المؤمنين والمؤمنات ثم لم يتوبوا فلهم عذاب جهنم ولهم عذاب الحريق

Sher Ali:

[085:010]  Those who persecute the believing men and the believing women and then repent not, for them is, surely, the punishment of Hell, and for them is the torment of heart-burning.

Shakir:

[085:010]  Surely (as for) those who persecute the believing men and the believing women, then do not repent, they shall have the chastisement of hell, and they shall have the chastisement of burning.

Pickthall:

[085:010]  Lo! they who persecute believing men and believing women and repent not, theirs verily will be the doom of hell, and theirs the doom of burning.

Sale:

[085:010]  Verily for those who persecute the true believers of either sex, and afterwards repent not, is prepared the torment of hell; and they shall suffer the pain of burning.

Muhammad Al-Hilali & Muhsin Khan:

[085:010]  Verily, those who put into trial the believing men and believing women (by torturing them and burning them), and then do not turn in repentance, (to Allah), will have the torment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the burning Fire.

Palmer:

[085:010]  Verily, those who make trial of the believers, men and women, and then do not repent, for them is the torment of hell, and for them is the torment of the burning!

Arberry:

[085:010]  Those who persecute the believers, men and women, and then have not repented, there awaits them the chastisement of Gehenna, and there awaits them the chastisement of the burning.

Khalifa: (why is he here?)

[085:010]  Surely, those who persecute the believing men and women, then fail to repent, have incurred the retribution of Gehenna; they have incurred the retribution of burning.

Rodwell:

[085:010]  Verily, those who vexed the believers, men and women, and repented not, doth the torment of Hell, and the torment of the burning, await.

Noble Verse(s) 8:39

Yusuf Ali:

[008:039]  And fight them on until there is no more tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in God altogether and everywhere; but if they cease, verily God doth see all that they do.

Dr. Munir Munshey (one of www.answering-christianity.com's authors):

[008:039]  (Oh believers)! Fight against them until the mischief and oppression are no more, and faith becomes the domain of Allah exclusively. If they cease, then (remember): Allah watches (vigilantly) over everything they do.

Transliteration:

[008:039]  Waqatiloohum hatta la takoona fitnatun wayakoona alddeenu kulluhu lillahi fa-ini intahaw fa-inna Allaha bima yaAAmaloona baseerun

Arabic (Read from right to left.  Also, all png image files: [1] [2]):

8:39 وقاتلوهم حتى لاتكون فتنة ويكون الدين كله لله فان انتهوا فان الله بما يعملون بصير

Sher Ali:

[008:039]  And fight them until there is no persecution and religion is wholly to ALLAH. But if they desist, then surely ALLAH is Watchful of what they do.

Shakir:

[008:039]  And fight with them until there is no more persecution and religion should be only for Allah; but if they desist, then surely Allah sees what they do.

Pickthall:

[008:039]  And fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is all for Allah. But if they cease, then lo! Allah is Seer of what they do.

Sale:

[008:039]  Therefore fight against them until there be no opposition in favour of idolatry, and the religion be wholly God's. If they desist, verily God seeth that which they do:

Muhammad Al-Hilali & Muhsin Khan:

[008:039]  And fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief and polytheism: i.e. worshipping others besides Allah) and the religion (worship) will all be for Allah Alone (in the whole of the world). But if they cease (worshipping others besides Allah), then certainly, Allah is All-Seer of what they do.

Palmer:

[008:039]  Fight them then that there should be no sedition, and that the religion may be wholly God's; but if they desist, then God on what they do doth look.

Arberry:

[008:039]  Fight them, till there is no persecution and the religion is God's entirely; then if they give over, surely God sees the things they do;

Khalifa: (why is he here?)

[008:039]  You shall fight them to ward off oppression, and to practice your religion devoted to GOD alone. If they refrain from aggression, then GOD is fully Seer of everything they do.

Rodwell:

[008:039]  Fight then against them till strife be at an end, and the religion be all of it God's. If they desist, verily God beholdeth what they do:

Noble Verse(s) 3:103

Yusuf Ali:

[003:103]  And hold fast, all together, by the rope which God (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves; and remember with gratitude God's favour on you; for ye were enemies and He joined your hearts in love, so that by His Grace, ye became brethren; and ye were on the brink of the pit of Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus doth God make His Signs clear to you: That ye may be guided.

Dr. Munir Munshey (one of www.answering-christianity.com's authors):

[003:103]  Cling firmly to the rope of Allah, all of you together (as a single entity)! Do not fall into disunity. Remember the favors of Allah upon you, when you were each other’s enemy? He brought your hearts together; and so by His grace you became (like) brothers. You were (perched precariously) at the brink of a fire filled abyss. But He saved you from it. Thus Allah makes the revelations clear to you. Perhaps you will find the right path.

Transliteration:

[003:103]  WaiAAtasimoo bihabli Allahi jameeAAan wala tafarraqoo waothkuroo niAAmata Allahi AAalaykum ith kuntum aAAdaan faallafa bayna quloobikum faasbahtum biniAAmatihi ikhwanan wakuntum AAala shafa hufratin mina alnnari faanqathakum minha kathalika yubayyinu Allahu lakum ayatihi laAAallakum tahtadoona

Arabic (Read from right to left.  Also, all png image files: [1] [2]):

3:103 واعتصموا بحبل الله جميعا ولاتفرقوا واذكروا نعمة الله عليكم اذ كنتم اعداء فالف بين قلوبكم فاصبحتم بنعمته اخوانا وكنتم على شفا حفرة من النار فانقذكم منها كذلك يبين الله لكم اياته لعلكم تهتدون

Sher Ali:

[003:103]  And hold fast, all together, to the rope of ALLAH and be not divided; and remember the favour of ALLAH which HE bestowed upon you when you were enemies and HE united your hearts in love, so that by HIS grace you became as brothers; and you were on the brink of a pit of fire and HE saved you from it. Thus does ALLAH explain to you HIS commandments that you may be guided.

Shakir:

[003:103]  And hold fast by the covenant of Allah all together and be not disunited, and remember the favor of Allah on you when you were enemies, then He united your hearts so by His favor you became brethren; and you were on the brink of a pit of fire, then He saved you from it, thus does Allah make clear to you His communications that you may follow the right way.

Pickthall:

[003:103]  And hold fast, all of you together, to the cable of Allah, and do not separate. And remember Allah's favour unto you: How ye were enemies and He made friendship between your hearts so that ye became as brothers by His grace; and (how) ye were upon the brink of an abyss of fire, and He did save you from it. Thus Allah maketh clear His revelations unto you, that haply ye may be guided,

Sale:

[003:103]  And cleave all of you unto the covenant of God, and depart not from it, and remember the favour of God towards you: Since ye were enemies, and he reconciled your hearts, and ye became companions and brethren by his favour: And ye were on the brink of a pit of fire, and he delivered you thence. Thus God declareth unto you his signs, that ye may be directed.

Muhammad Al-Hilali & Muhsin Khan:

[003:103]  And hold fast, all of you together, to the Rope of Allah (i.e. this Quran), and be not divided among yourselves, and remember Allahs Favour on you, for you were enemies one to another but He joined your hearts together, so that, by His Grace, you became brethren (in Islamic Faith), and you were on the brink of a pit of Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus Allah makes His Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.,) clear to you, that you may be guided.

Palmer:

[003:103]  Take tight hold of God's rope altogether, and do not part in sects; but remember the favours of God towards you, when ye were enemies and He made friendship between your hearts, and on the morrow ye were, by His favour, brothers. Ye were on the edge of a pit of fire, but he rescued you therefrom. Thus does God show to you His signs, perchance ye may be guided;

Arberry:

[003:103]  And hold you fast to God's bond, together, and do not scatter; remember God's blessing upon you when you were enemies, and He brought your hearts together, so that by His blessing you became brothers. You were upon the brink of a pit of Fire, and He delivered you from it; even so God makes clear to you His signs; so haply you will be guided.

Khalifa: (why is he here?)

[003:103]  You shall hold fast to the rope of GOD, all of you, and do not be divided. Recall GOD's blessings upon you - you used to be enemies and He reconciled your hearts. By His grace, you became brethren. You were at the brink of a pit of fire, and He saved you therefrom. GOD thus explains His revelations for you, that you may be guided.

Rodwell:

[003:103]  And hold ye fast by the cord of God, all of you, and break not loose from it; and remember God's goodness towards you, how that when ye were enemies, He united your hearts, and by his favour ye became brethren; And when ye were on the brink of the pit of fire, he drew you back from it. Thus God clearly sheweth you his signs that ye may be guided;
