Title: Why were satanic verses narrated by Bukhari?

Salam, my question is in the subject. Like why would islamic scholars narrate this? They thought it was true or did hypocrites get access to all of these scholars' collections?

Wa Alaikum As'salam,

Most of the Hadiths were not documented, and the ones that were were mingled with a vast amount of other writings that were not verified.  The official Hadiths collections that we have today came 100s of years after Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.

So it is not a matter if they would or wouldn't.  It's a matter of the people whom the narrations are being invented on their mouths were long dead before this story began to surface.  Also, the Glorious Quran directly contradicts and refutes many of these false stories:
