Peace or not
« on: December 11, 2012, 01:05:02 PM »
Peace
i came across a quranic verse 47: 35
Sahih International
So do not weaken and call for peace while you are superior; and Allah is with you and will never deprive you of [the reward of] your deeds.
Muhsin Khan
So be not weak and ask not for peace (from the enemies of Islam), while you are having the upper hand. Allah is with you, and will never decrease the reward of your good deeds.
Pickthall
So do not falter and cry out for peace when ye (will be) the uppermost, and Allah is with you, and He will not grudge (the reward of) your actions.
Yusuf Ali
Be not weary and faint-hearted, crying for peace, when ye should be uppermost: for Allah is with you, and will never put you in loss for your (good) deeds.
Shakir
And be not slack so as to cry for peace and you have the upper hand, and Allah is with you, and He will not bring your deeds to naught.
Dr. Ghali
So do not feel feeble and call for (your) submission while (Literally: and) you are the most exalted ones; and Allah is with you, and He will never divest you of your deeds.
as usual my first sources was answering Christianity and i found this article

Well to be honest why would you want to incline for peace when you have the upper hand? If you keep slacking off the enemy will keep rebuilding itself and carry on biting your ass. Plus they deserve it. I read that a muslim should first before a war actually starts should try to make peace but if the enemy refuses...

but in 8: 61
it says:
وَإِن جَنَحُوا لِلسَّلْمِ فَاجْنَحْ لَهَا وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
Sahih International
And if they incline to peace, then incline to it [also] and rely upon Allah . Indeed, it is He who is the Hearing, the Knowing.
Muhsin Khan
But if they incline to peace, you also incline to it, and (put your) trust in Allah. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.
Pickthall
And if they incline to peace, incline thou also to it, and trust in Allah. Lo! He, even He, is the Hearer, the Knower.
Yusuf Ali
But if the enemy incline towards peace, do thou (also) incline towards peace, and trust in Allah: for He is One that heareth and knoweth (all things).
Shakir
And if they incline to peace, then incline to it and trust in Allah; surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
Dr. Ghali
And in case they are bent on submission, then be bent on it and put your trust in Allah; surely He, Ever He, is The Ever-Hearing, The Ever-Knowing.
So why can we accept peace if they initiate it but we cannot initiate peace if we have the upper hand?

To make it simply , if a person attacks you first in war , you should fire back . And if you edge close to win the war and they asked for peace - after they started attacking you ! - then you shouldn't accept it . You should keep going until they surrender . That makes sense doesn't it ? Would you just pull your forces back after they declared war on you ?

Hmmmm , I don't know the answer right now . I'll try and see . But I want you - and many others - to know this : Islam is a great religion . It is not a tie of misunderstandings which we need to untie . I know that you want to defend your religion by knowing how to refute these false claims which come day in and day out . But you  should also learn about Islam's greatness and study it and its teachings and history .

God knows best

I actually just found that surah 47 came after surah 8, does it abrogate it?

Sam Shamoun and his crew are bad people and they are literally the worst at proving a point.

Muslims do not wage or start any war. They fight in self-defense AFTER the kafirs wage war. About why the Muslims can not call for peace in a war, the conflict and fitnah will not be fully gone if Muslims don't keep fighting the kafirs until they surrender. They will come back again. About "if they incline to peace, thou incline to peace" that is IF the kafirs want peace FIRST then Muslims should listen to them and end the war.

In other words, Muslims do not ask for peace FIRST when they are fighting a self-defense war but if the enemies ask for peace FIRST, then Muslims must listen. If the kafirs come back to fight though after requesting peace, the cycle is repeated (Muslims do not ask for peace first but if the kafirs do, then you also.)
