Is there solid proof for the prohibition of Chess
What i found was this hadith
Buraida reported on the authority of his father that Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) said: He who played chess is like one who dyed his hand with the flesh and blood of swine.
However the word they used is nardsheer, which translates into backgammon, or gambling dice.

IS there ANY other proof of its prohibition that is attributed to the prophet, not by later scholars?

There is no proof of chess prohibition that is attributed to the prophet peace be upon him ,and there is no proof that Arabs knew that game before or during the time of the prophet ,but at later times   was taken up by the Muslim world after the conquest of Persia ....

I heard there was a hadith that says that Ali (RA) prohibited chess by saying to people who were playing
"What are these images to whose worship you cleave?"
i couln't find a source for that says this, Ali was quouting "Surah Anbiya 21:52"
I also found others but none were atributed to the prophet or gave the source

Another one i found was this one:
It was narrated that ‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib (may Allaah be pleased with him) passed by some people who were playing chess. He said, “What are these images, to which you are devoted? [cf. al-Anbiya’ 21:52]” Imaam Ahmad said: “The soundest comment on chess what that which was said by ‘Ali (may Allaah be pleased with him).”

‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) was asked about chess and he said, “It is worse than dice.”

From:

I repeat, no source, and every other person he (islamqa) mentioned (that directly prohibits chess) is not attributed to the prophet or any of his companions.

What i meant is that i found no source of this, also he was quoting the quran, not prohibiting chess, the quran was about how Prophet Abraham wass critising people and questioning them about worshiping statues.
