Hadith on twelve successors.

The hadith in question goes as follows "There will be twelve caliphs after me, all of them will be from Quraish"

Now, I'm a bit confused here. Does this mean that a person that is not from Quraysh couldnt be Caliph? If so, what about the Ottomans. Aren't they considered Caliphs?

Whilst rooting around google i found another hadith with had slightly different wording but essentially the same meaning and it was authentic.
