Surah Tin Verses 1-3 and Deuteronomy 33:2
« on: February 03, 2021, 07:44:28 PM »
Salam guys,
This is my first time posting here, and I just wanted to say that I was reading the tafsir of Surah At-Tin,  and the tafsir of verses 1-3 of Surah Tin referred to Deuteronomy 33:2 in the Bible. That's because Verses 1-3 of Surah Tin say "By the fig and the olive and Mount Sinai, and this secure city" and Deuteronomy 33:2 says "And he said, The LORD came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them." After referring to this Bible verse, the tafsir went on and said that "Sinai" is the place of Moses and is the second verse of Surah Tin. It said that "Seir" is referred to as "the fig and the olive" in the Quran and is the place of Jesus. It said that "fig and olive" refer to Seir because that place has a lot of figs and olives. Finally, it said that "Paran" refers to "the protected city" Makkah, where Muhammad came from. This is cool isn't it?

I know that you guys used Deuteronomy 33:2 to prove Muhammad's prophecy, but tafsirs connected this verse to Surah Tin! This is even cooler now.

I found a slight issue though with Deuteronomy 33:2, it says "ten thousands of his saints (plural)" while only ten thousand people liberated Makkah from Madinah. The Bible verse did not say only ten thousand but it said ten thousands or myriads, which makes it sound like more than ten thousand people liberated Makkah which is not true. So can you brothers help clear this problem up for me? Jazakallah.

Wa Alaikum As'salam,

Welcome to the board, brother Ali.  The NT renews this prophecy and gives the number 10,000:

The NT's mentioning of this prophecy tells us that it has not been fulfilled throughout the entire OT's times.  Only Islam fulfilled it.

Take care,

Jude 14-15
New English Translation
14 Now Enoch, the seventh in descent beginning with Adam,[a] even prophesied of them,[ b] saying, “Look! The Lord is coming[c] with thousands and thousands[d] of his holy ones, 15 to execute judgment on[e] all, and to convict every person[f] of all their thoroughly ungodly deeds[g] that they have committed,[h] and of all the harsh words that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”[ i]

d. Jude 1:14 tn Grk “ten thousands.” The word μυριάς (murias), from which the English myriad is derived, means “ten thousand.” In the plural it means “ten thousands.” This would mean, minimally, 20,000 (a multiple of ten thousand). At the same time, the term was often used in apocalyptic literature to represent simply a rather large number, without any attempt to be specific.
