As'salamu Alaikum dear brothers and sisters in Islam,

Who was the sacrificed son?  Isaac or Ishmael?  And in Islam there is no "El" in names as in Ishmael?  Is the GOD of Islam different?

Salam brother Osama,

I just want to bring to your attention the following regarding the sacrificed son of Abraham (pbuh):

•   Genesis (16:16) Abram was           eighty-six years old          when Hagar bore him Ishmael.

•   Genesis (21:5) Abraham was a       hundred years old            when his son Isaac was born to him

According to Genesis, Ishmael was 14 years older than Isaac.

•   Genesis (22:2) Then God said, “Take your son,          your only son,              whom you love—Isaac—            and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

In this verse, Allah told Abraham to sacrifice his "ONLY SON", and Isaac is mentioned in this verse. This contradicts the other two verses because the ONLY SON Abraham would have at that time is Ishmael. So, it seems to me that someone added the word “Isaac” without paying attention to the age of the two boys.

There is another proof from Quran that the sacrificed son was Ishmael. I am not sure if you mentioned it in other articles. But, here it is just in case:

The angels told Abraham glad news.

•   (11:69) There came Our messengers to Abraham with glad tidings. They said, "Peace!" He answered, "Peace!" and hastened to entertain them with a roasted calf.

The angels told Abraham that they were sent against the people of Lut.

•   (11:70) But when he saw their hands went not towards the (meal), he felt some mistrust of them, and conceived a fear of them. They said: "Fear not: We have been sent against the people of Lut."

The angles told the wife of Abraham that she will give birth to Isaac, who will have a son Jacob. Please note that at the begging of the verse, Allah said that she was standing “nearby”. Therefore Abraham heard what they told her. Therefore, Abraham knew that his son Isaac would live until he begets Jacob.

•   His wife who was standing   "nearby",    smiled and so We gave her the glad news that       she would give birth to Isaac who would have a son, Jacob.

Allah told Abraham to sacrifice his son. If the son that Allah told him to sacrifice was Isaac, how then he will beget Jacob. Abraham was not aware that Allah is only testing him. Therefore, it’s a crystal clear that the sacrificed son was Ishmael.

Last but not least, may Allah bless our beloved Prophet Isaac and grant him the highest level in heaven with our beloved Prophet Mohammad.

Your efforts are very much appreciated,
With great respect,
