As'salamu Alaikum dear brother,

Please visit:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ezra
http://www.islamic-awareness.org/Quran/Contrad/External/ezra.html

The Jews of the time were taking Ezra in the highest regard.  He was even called "The Father of Judaism", and Jews also believe that he was taken up to Heaven without dying.

I hope this helps, insha'Allah.

Take care,
Osama Abdallah

The absence of proof is not a proof of the absence.

As-Salamu `Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh akhi,
Uzair, also known as Ezra, is a Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and is mentioned in Surah Al-Barqarah, verse 259. The Jews made up lies and said he was Almighty Allah's son, the same way the Christians regard Jesus (peace and blessings be upon him).

It seems that a lot of nonsense was floating around during those days, as it is still floating around during our days as well.  Christians themselves don't even know how to define the term "Son of God".  Christ himself made it abundantly clear in the Gospel of John, that his "Son" title is lesser than their "God" title that was given to them.  Visit: http://www.answering-christianity.com/convert_christians.htm.

So if Christ's "Son" title is lesser than the normal believer's "God" title, then what does "Son of God" really mean??  The Glorious Quran answers this beautifully: http://www.answering-christianity.com/son_of_god_title.htm.

So Ezra being called "Son of God" during that time isn't a surprise.  Besides, the Glorious Quran here can be used as a historical account that such reference to Ezra did historically exist.  And it shouldn't come as a surprise that Ezra was called "Son of God", since the Jews called him "The Father of Judaism."

I hope this helps, insha'Allah.

Take care akhi,
Osama Abdallah
