Title: Quranic Proof About the Second Coming
Post by: Ali ibn Masud on February 08, 2021, 05:11:01 PM
Assalamu Alaykum Brother Osama and everyone else,
It is strange that when I search up quranic proofs about the second coming of the Messiah in Google, no quranic verses appear concerning it. I know that hadiths talk about the Second Coming, but quranists don't believe hadiths (I'm not a quranist). In order to find Noble Verses about the Second Coming you have to read the meaning of the Quran and basically fish for the Noble Verses that talk about the Second Coming. So one day, I stumbled across Surah Zukhruf Verse 61 (43:61) and Surah Nisa Verse 159 (4:159), and they both talk about the Second Coming. The tafsirs state these verses refer to the Second Coming. Even without the tafsirs, these verses look strange if you don't believe in the Second Coming. Now let us examine the verses and a few verses before them:

"and for boasting, 'We killed the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the messenger of Allah.' But they neither killed nor crucified him—it was only made to appear so. Even those who argue for this ˹crucifixion˺ are in doubt. They have no knowledge whatsoever—only making assumptions. They certainly did not kill him.

Rather, Allah raised him up to Himself. And Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.

Every one of the People of the Book will definitely believe in him before his death. And on the Day of Judgment Jesus will be a witness against them."

(Surah Nisa Verses 157-159)

Now the words in bold sound strange, don't they? Who's death are they referring to in "before his death"? Let's see what the "English Mokhtasar" tafsir says:

"There is not one of the People of the Scripture except that they will believe in Jesus (peace be upon him) before his death after he descends towards the end of time. On the Day of Judgement, Jesus (peace be upon him) will bear witness against their actions, whether agreeing with the sacred law or not."

As we can see here, the "death" is Jesus' death after he descends towards the end of time. Now, this is 1 proof of the Second Coming. Let's look at Surah Zukhruf Verses 57-61:

"When the son of Mary was cited as an example ˹in argument˺, your people ˹O Prophet˺ broke into ˹joyful˺ applause.

They exclaimed, 'Which is better: our gods or Jesus?' They cite him only to argue. In fact, they are a people prone to dispute.

He was only a servant We showed favour to, and made as an example for the Children of Israel.

Had We willed, We could have easily replaced you ˹all˺ with angels, succeeding one another on earth.

And his ˹second˺ coming is truly a sign for the Hour. So have no doubt about it, and follow me. This is the Straight Path."

(Surah Zukhruf Verses 57-61)

Even though the real translation of the bolded words in Noble Verse 43:61 is "And indeed, he is a knowledge of the Hour",  the verse still sounds like "in order to know that the Hour is near, look for him (Jesus)." This proves that Jesus has a second coming. Now let's see what the "English Mokhtasar" tafsir says:

"Indeed, Jesus is a sign from the major signs of the Hour, when he shall descend towards the end of time. So do not doubt the Hour’s occurrence and follow me in whatever I have brought to you from Allah. This thing I have brought is the straight path in which there is no deviance."

Now we can see that the tafsir says that Jesus will descend at the end of times. This is proof number 2 of the Second Coming.

We can now conclude that Google was entirely useless in this research and we had to manually read the meaning of the Quran. So, know that the Quran has many hidden answers and secrets that we have yet to find.

Ali ibn Masud
