A Look At Some of the Prophecies of the New Testament

By

A lot of Christians tend to argue that the Bible is the word of God because it contains fabulous prophecies. Well, what will happen then if we find some prophecies that have a problem? Lets look at a few for example.

Matthew 1:23 takes Isaiah 7:14 out of context.

Isaiah 7:10-14

10 Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz, 11 "Ask the LORD your God for a sign, whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights." 12 But Ahaz said, "I will not ask; I will not put the LORD to the test." 13 Then Isaiah said, "Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of men? Will you try the patience of my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you [c] a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and [d] will call him Immanuel. [e] 15 16 But before the boy knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste.

It is clear that this sign is meant for King Ahaz. But King Ahaz died 700 years before Jesus.

Matthew 2:26 takes Micah 5:2 out of context.

Matthew 2:6

6" 'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.

Micah 5:2

2 "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans [a] of Judah,
out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel,
whose origins [b] are from of old, from ancient times. [c] "

Matthew 2:6 says that Bethlehem is not least among the rulers of Judah while Micah 5:2 says otherwise.

To further disprove that it is not Jesus which Matthew 2:6 thinks Micah 5:2 is talking about,  look at verses 5-6.

5 And he will be their peace.

Deliverance and Destruction

When the Assyrian invades our land
       and marches through our fortresses,
we will raise against him seven shepherds,
       even eight leaders of men.

6 They will rule [d] the land of Assyria with the sword,
the land of Nimrod with drawn sword. [e]
He will deliver us from the Assyrian
       when he invades our land
       and marches into our borders.

When did Jesus do all this? Clearly, Matthew took Micah 5:2 out of context.

False Prophecies

Paul thought that Jesus was coming soon.

1 Thessalonians 4:15-17

15According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

They are dead now and the "Lord" did not come back yet.

Mark 13:23-30

24"But in those days, following that distress,  " 'the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light; 25the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.'[a]

26"At that time men will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.

28"Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 29Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door. 30I tell you the truth, this generation[b] will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.

If the Christians say that it is not generation but race, then what kind of special prediction is that. KJV, RSV also say generation.

Matthew 16:27-28

7For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done. 28I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."

Luke 9:27

27I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God."

Matthew 10:22-23

22All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. 23When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

Christianity is spread to almost the whole world now.
