GENERAL TOPICS | BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS / Clarification on Quran 5:5 needed:
« on: October 09, 2013, 01:17:42 AM »
Quran 5:5 ""..and the food of those who were given to the People of the Scripture is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them.."

The alleged contradiction is that Jews cannot eat shellfish but Muslims can. Christians can eat pork but Muslims cannot. Therefore this would be a contradiction.

Further, if you say that the modern day Jews and the Christians are not the people of the scripture, then why does the same verse (5:5) tell us that it is okay to marry them because they are believers if they do not exist?

Further, wouldn't this verse be pointing at the fact that the Quran believes that Jews and Christians' scriptures are not corrupted?

Please explain

((I'm playing the devils advocate here so that people can reference this in the future. In other words: I am purposely posting difficulties so that people can reference this as a guide))

(Quran 6.133)  If He wills, he can do away with you and give succession after you to WHATEVER He wills, just as He produced you from the descendants of another people.

Allah can get rid of Us and make another creature succeed just as he produced US from another people!

Note: The Quran specifically uses the word "Whatever" or "What" ("ma" in Arabic ما). This Arabic word "ma" cannot refer to humans; this word is strictly reserved for non-humans (the Arabic word that does refer to humans is "men من", meaning "who" or "whoever" but it was not used here). This verse says that if God wishes He can make our descendants nonhuman just like our ancestors. Further this verse is referring to ALL of mankind (as Quran 6:130 shows in context). So all of mankind was produced from descendants of another people (hominids).

(Quran 4:133) If it were His will, He could destroy you, o mankind, and create another race; for He hath power this to do.
(Quran 35:16) If He wills, He can do away with you and bring forth a new creation.
(Quran 47:38) And if you turn away, He will replace you with another people; then they will not be the likes of you.

^Again, we see a reference to Allah destroying Mankind and creating another people. If you notice from the context the verse before 35:16 shows that its talking about mankind. Now with verse 6:133 in mind and the other verses, what do you propose is the mechanism Allah would use? Further Quran 47:38 explicitly says that the other people the Quran is talking about in 6:133 will not be like us and that we descended from another people NOT like us!

Let me get an opinion please.

May Allah bless you and your families. And may Syria be at peace!

[Quran 18:27] And recite, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book of your Lord. There is no changer of His words, and never will you find in other than Him a refuge.

[Quran 2:106] We do not abrogate a verse or cause it to be forgotten except that We bring forth [one] better than it or similar to it. Do you not know that Allah is over all things competent?

I heard some say that there is no changer of Allah's word, except Allah. But the verse doesn't say that.

Can I get an explanation?

GENERAL TOPICS | BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS / Help on Quranic verse 2:178
« on: August 26, 2013, 11:35:53 PM »
Quran 2:178 O you who have believed, prescribed for you is legal retribution for those murdered - the free for the free, the slave for the slave, and the female for the female. But whoever overlooks from his brother anything, then there should be a suitable follow-up and payment to him with good conduct. This is an alleviation from your Lord and a mercy. But whoever transgresses after that will have a painful punishment.

The objection is that it is not moral to allow an innocent slave or female to die just because you killed a slave/female.

Can I get an explanation?

Quran 36:36 Glory to Allah, Who created in pairs all things that the earth produces, as well as their own (human) kind and (other) things of which they have no knowledge.

This verse cannot be referring to matter/anti-matter because it is talking about things that the Earth produces!

Bacteria don't have a pair.

Can anyone help with this verse please?

EDIT: There are obviously things we could attribute to this verse:

Best one (this one makes the most sense, if there is one natural phenomena that describes this verse and everything the Earth produces made in pairs, it is logically NOT a contradiction ):

If you are produced from the Earth, you are either a Prokaryote or a Eukaryote. (pair)-All cells are either one.

In a sense all things that the Earth produces (living things) is created in a pair, either prokarotic or Eukaryotic. Even humans are created in a pair (male and female) and there are other things we don't know created in pairs. So by utilizing natural phenomena that shows this verse is true, logically, there is no contradiction.

Others:
If you are a bacteria and you are produced from the Earth, you divide into a pair..

I've heard the objection to this Surah, that Muhammad (pbuh) was venting at Abu Lahab so he wrote this Quranic Surah. The objection also states that Allah has a sadistic and angry mentality.

The objection is read as:

"Here Allah abuses a Puny Human Abu Lahab..
Now wud God curse a Human??.. wudnt he just destroy him??
This Chapter proves that Quran is written by muhammad,, and he was venting out his anger on Abu lahab in this chapter..
Also who is this Abu lahab?? does thequran tel anything bout him?? ..NO
So u hv to ely on hadiths..the Final revelation by GOD neds man-made boks to be understood..
Now try to refute this my dear"

The Surah Reads as:

(111:1) May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he.

(111:2) His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained.

(111:3) He will [enter to] burn in a Fire of [blazing] flame

(111:4) And his wife [as well] - the carrier of firewood.

(111:5) Around her neck is a rope of [twisted] fiber.

^Can anyone verify on the purpose of this Surah?

His only argument was that Judaism came from Islam.

He said things like:

Islam does Jewish customs more perfectly than Jews
Islamic philosophy is extremely powerful
Once a person converts to Islam, its hard to make them Jewish.

In this video, he shows how the Hijab is a Jewish custom adopted by the Quran!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysHBoQsg9e4
-Wouldn't it make sense for Allah to uphold such a custom?

I ask everyone to put it in context and reflect:

1.) Which religion is more corrupted, Christianity or Judaism?
2.) Of question #1, does it make more sense that Islam is closer to Judaism?

Just a general question :)

What is your view of evolution and evolution in the Quranic Context?

May Allah bless you all.

"Shall I seek other than God as a source of law, when He has revealed to you this book fully detailed?" 6:114

"You will find that the sunna of Allah is the only sunna" (33:62....35:43.....48:23) --The ONLY sunna!

"These are God's revelations that We recite to you truthfully. In which hadith other than God and His revelations do they believe?" 45:6
-What hadith other than God's do we believe?

"Which hadith, other than this (Quran), do they uphold?" 77:50
-Which Hadith other than the Quran do you uphold?

"These are God's revelations that we recite to you truthfully. In which hadith other than God and His revelations do they believe?" 45:6

"Among the people, there are those who uphold baseless hadith, and thus divert others from the path of God without knowledge, and take it in vain. These have incurred a shameful retribution." 31:6

"God has revealed herein the best hadith; a book that is consistent, and points out both ways." 39:23

"Let them produce a hadith like this, if they are truthful." 52:34

"Therefore, let Me deal with those who reject this hadith; we will lead them on whence they never perceive." 68:44

^All of these verses are clearly pointing that the Quran is the ONLY hadith to follow! The ONLY sunna to follow? So how can we accept Hadiths that slightly contradict the Quran? How?

All of the hadiths that make our beloved prophet (pbuh) look bad even the authentic ones! How can we say we are to follow them? The Quran prohibits it. The prophet himself (according to those hadiths) said NOT to:

"Do not write down anything of me except the Quran. Whoever writes other than that should delete it" (Ahmed, Vol. 1, page 171.....also Sahih Muslim )

Quran 23:14 .... and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; the

The problem is that its not bones. It is hyaline cartilage, and this cartilage is the same type of cartilage that is in the nose and joints. Ossification has not occurred yet and is incomplete.

They say that the Arabic term for cartilage, ghurdoof should have been used instead of idhaam.

Help with this please.

Quran 3:7 It is He who has sent down to you, [O Muhammad], the Book; in it are verses [that are] precise - they are the foundation of the Book - and others unspecific. As for those in whose hearts is deviation [from truth], they will follow that of it which is unspecific, seeking discord and seeking an interpretation [suitable to them]. And no one knows its [true] interpretation except Allah. But those firm in knowledge say, "We believe in it. All [of it] is from our Lord." And no one will be reminded except those of understanding.

This verse is saying 3 things:

1.) There are clear verses (verses about what you should do, laws, whats right, whats wrong)
2.) There are unspecific verses open to interpretation and not everyone can interpret it the right way
3.) The people who can interpret the unspecific verses are the ones with knowledge and understanding

Knowledge and understanding about what? Why not natural phenomena? So people without knowledge or understanding of natural phenomena would not be able to seek the correct interpretation. And since Allah knows everything , he is the one who knows the true interpretation.

So this means the scientific miracles of the Quran were put there purposely as unspecific verses and the people with knowledge and understanding can interpret those verses. So the interpretation of people back then isn't necessarily the right interpretation because they don't have knowledge and understanding of natural phenomena.

So this verse is also saying, that people with knowledge will know that the Quran is from God (even the unspecific verses) and that people of understanding can truly grasp the meaning of the unspecific verses.

Not only that, this verse is extremely relevant to Islamic Apologists, as it says that people will make an interpretation suitable to them seeking contradictions (discord).

Very interesting and mighty verse. Thoughts?

Common atheist claim, need your response.

Why did God (who is perfect) create an imperfect creation. (Humans have organs like the appendix that we don't need, giraffes have a trachea that goes back-unnecessary). So why did God create us with imperfections.

Please watch this too: A rebuttal would be nice:

You are about to read the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard in all of my life. There was this guy who when presented with irrefutable Quranic miracles, he responded with, "Okay, How do you know that God wrote the Quran and not Aliens: you see some miracles in the Quran and you immediately attribute it to God".

I was speechless. I responded by saying:

1.) The author of the Quran claims he is God
2.) You have no evidence that Aliens ever came to earth
3.) People in the past told Muhammad (pbuh) he was a magician, soothesayer etc. (and the alien thing was as ridiculous as saying he was a magician).

But then he said "No, really think about it--why wouldn't aliens have written the Quran so they can give humanity something or stop humanity from progressing scientifically-because religion has been shown to stop scientific advances because people are pre-occupied worshiping a fairy tale that their book convinced them of being true. That means that the aliens were trying to limit human progression so they can come destroy us in the future or use us as slaves"

The only thing i was able to say is that: What if there really was a God and he sent a scripture with divine miracles--you would still say it was written by aliens? Why base your lack of faith on speculation? The "What ifs" does not disprove Islam. What if, someone made a time machine and went back in time to write the Quran so he can change the world.

You won't believe what he said after that: "Yeah thats another possibility too. See how do you know its from God if there are other possibilities that its not"

This guy was actually convinced somewhat that the Quran could have not been written by ancient humans. But,

I again was disappointing to hear this close-mindedness. Seriously Aliens?

Whats your take on it? Comments? I cannot believe atheists could sink this low. Do you have anything to say?

[Quran 41.9-12] Say: "Is it that you deny Him [Allah] who created Earth in two days? And you claim others to be equal to Him? He is the Lord of (all) the Worlds." 10 He set on it (Earth) mountains, and bestowed it with blessings. And [Allah] estimated all its sustenance in four days, equally  for those who ask (prayers) 11 Then  [Allah] commanded the heaven and it was still smoke. He said to it and to Earth: "Come together, willingly or unwillingly." They said: "We do come together, in willing obedience". 12 So [Allah] decreed them as seven heavens (one above the other) in two days and revealed to each heaven its orders. And We [Allah] adorned the lowest heaven with lights, and protection. Such is the decree of the Exalted; the Knowledgeable.

Here it says God set on Earth mountains and then he commanded the heaven to come with the earth. And SO Allah decreed them as seven heavens.

Lets assume that "thumma" in the above verse means "moreover", on verse 12 it says "so" Allah decreed them as seven heavens! That means that  the Earth and the universe came together SO Allah decreed them as 7 heavens. Doesn't this illustrate a sequence of events? The heavens and the earth came together and THEN Allah made them as 7 heavens?

So "heavens" doesn't mean universe in that verse and all other verses, right?

Please help!
