And my advice will not benefit you - although I wished to advise you - If Allah should intend to put you in error. He is your Lord, and to Him you will be returned." why would Allah put people in error

2:7) Allah has sealed their hearts10 and their hearing, and a covering has fallen over their eyes. They deserve severe chastisement.

It is due to their their stubbornest of denying signs/miracles shown in front of their eyes. So they will remained astray till Day of Judgement.

That is because they preferred the worldly life over the Hereafter and that Allah does not guide the disbelieving people.Those are the ones over whose hearts and hearing and vision Allah has sealed, and it is those who are the heedless. (16:107-108)
