Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (refuting alisinas claim)
« on: March 30, 2017, 10:47:54 AM »
Obsessive Compulsive disorder:

A. Either obsessions or compulsions:

Obsessions as defined by (1), (2), (3), and (4):

(1) recurrent and persistent thoughts, impulses, or images that are experienced, at some time during the disturbance, as intrusive and inappropriate and that cause marked anxiety or distress .He was not an anxious person but a man of calm,patient and balanced personality.
(2) the thoughts, impulses, or images are not simply excessive worries about real-life problems .He was a patient person not a worrying man.
(3) the person attempts to ignore or suppress such thoughts, impulses, or images, or to neutralize them with some other thought or action .He never suppressed,rather mentioned the revelations and teachings of Islam.
(4) the person recognizes that the obsessional thoughts, impulses, or images are a product of his or her own mind (not imposed from without as in thought insertion). Not the case of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w.

Compulsions as defined by (1) and (2):

(1) repetitive behaviors (e.g., hand washing, ordering, checking) or mental acts  that the person feels driven to perform in response to an obsession, or according to rules that must be applied rigidly.
(2) the behaviors or mental acts are aimed at preventing or reducing distress or preventing some dreaded event or situation; however, these behaviors or mental acts either are not connected in a realistic way with what they are designed to neutralize or prevent or are clearly excessive

Believe me,there is no compulsion in any single practice of Islam.

if you do not find water for ablution,you can perform tayammum.

If you can not offer the prayer in standing position,you could offer in sitting position or even in lying position too.

Ablution,The Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w had performed the practices 3 times as well as 2 times and 1 times also.

You can recite the tasbeehaat in Sajdah and rukoo 3 times or 5 times or 7 times.

Believe me there is NO hard and fast rule regarding any single Islamic Practice.

B. At some point during the course of the disorder, the person has recognized that the obsessions or compulsions are excessive or unreasonable. Not the case of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w.

C. The obsessions or compulsions cause marked distress, are time consuming (take more than 1 hour a day), or significantly interfere with the person’s normal routine, occupational (or academic) functioning, or usual social activities or relationships.

Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w. had 13 wives,he had to lead the army,He was the look after the matters of Muslims,He had to lead the prayers in the mosque.

No social activities or the relationships were disturbed.

D. If another Axis I disorder is present, the content of the obsessions or compulsions is not restricted to it (e.g., preoccupation with food in the presence of an Eating Disorders;Absent

hair pulling in the presence of Trichotillomania; Absent

concern with appearance in the presence of Body Dysmorphic Disorder; Absent

preoccupation with drugs in the presence of a Substance Use Disorder; Absent

preoccupation with having a serious illness in the presence of Hypochondriasis; Absent

preoccupation with sexual urges or fantasies in the presence of a Paraphilia; or guilty ruminations in the presence of Major Depressive Disorder). Absent

E. The disturbance is not due to the direct physiological effects of a substance(e.g., a drug of abuse, a medication) or a general medical condition. No disturbance at all.

The Teachings of Islam:

“Allah intends for you ease, and does not want to make things difficult for you” [2:185]; and “Allah does not want to place you in difficulty” [5:6].

Such easiness is well explained in the hadeeth reported by Abu Hurairah, radiya Allahu ‘anhu, that the Prophet, salla Allaahu ‘alaihe wasallam, said, “Religion is easy…” [Bukhari], he also said; “The best of your religion, is the easiest.” [Ahmad]

This understanding is clarified in a hadeeth in which the Prophet, salla Allaahu ‘alaihe wasallam, said; “… Allah did not send me to be harsh, or cause harm, but He sent me to teach and make things easy” [Muslim]. This understanding is further implemented by the mercy sent to mankind, Muhammed, salla Allaahu ‘alaihe wasallam, in the hadeeth reported by his noble and pure wife, ‘Aishah, radiya Allahu ‘anhu, who said; “Whenever the Prophet, salla Allaahu ‘alaihe wasallam, has a choice between two matters, he would choose the easiest, unless it is sinful (act)” [Bukhari].

‘Facilitate [religious matters to people] and do not make [things] difficult. Obey each other and do not differ [amongst yourselves].’ (Bukhari & Muslim).

The Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w advised: ‘Facilitate [religious matters to people] and do not make [things] difficult. Obey each other and do not differ [amongst yourselves].’ (Bukhari & Muslim).

Quran:

‘God desires ease for you, and desires not hardship’ (2:185);
‘Truly with hardship comes ease’ (94: 6);
‘God will assuredly appoint, after difficulty; easiness’ (65:7);
‘Whoso fears God, God will appoint for him, of His command, easiness’ (65:4);
‘We shall speak to him, of our command, easiness’ (18:88);
‘God desires to lighten things for you, for the human being has been created weak’ (4:28).

Conclusion:

The Behavior of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w was versatile,His teachings had a lot of flexibility.

He chose easiness and made things easy or in short he was opposite to a person with OCD.

Bipolar Disorder:

Alisina had diagnosed Bipolar Disorder just on the basis of a single hadees quoted in Tabaqat which is a non authentic source.

Being a Doctor yourself, your words in regards to medical diagnosis is much more reliable then a person who has no experience in such field. nevertheless great job sister, I liked your refutation it was clear cut and to the point. Also note Ali Sina became a Christian, it is pathetic how he prides himself as an intellectual and instead converts to a religion that is filled with contradictions, it just may be that he loves the money that he gets from Pamella Gellar and it must be their new scheme. But Allah(swt) knows best.

Also sister I was looking through your WordPress and noticed the page regarding beating of wife. I would like to give you this info that will solidify what you stated here: "The wives should be guarding themselves in their husbands absence and everyone knows what does it mean.Now when a husband fears about his wife’s arrogance regarding this matter i.e if the wife is NOT guarding herself in his absence,then he has to advise her,separate her from the bed and it is also lawful for him to strike her."

You mentioned regarding striking which refers to the word DARABA. It has many meanings and the best meaning that word is "TURNING AWAY."

As u can see it refers more clearly to TURNING AWAY and leaving. thus the proper interpretation to this verse would be.

Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband’s] absence what Allah would have them guard. But those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance – [first] advise them; [then if they persist], forsake them in bed; and [finally], DARABA(TURN AWAY) from Them. But if they obey you [once more], seek no means against them. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted and Grand.(4:34)

"TURN AWAY" can refer to same as leaving the home or changing one's lifestyle that where you do not communicate with the other individual.

Quran 039:018

 "Those who listen to the Word (the Quran) and follow the best meaning in it / best of it (Arabic: fayattabi'una ahsanahu) those are the ones whom God has guided and those are the one's endowed with understanding (Arabic: Albabi)

So now we know that the best understanding of DARABA referring to striking of wife, is not striking but rather TURNING AWAY from the wife. also note that prophet Muhammad pbuh never Strike any of his wives but rather he did turn away from them when he was angry. below is the example of a time when that happened.

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was, once, angry with Safiyyah and so Safiyyah went to Aisha and said to her, "Could you make the Prophet (peace be upon him) forgive me and I would give up my day for you?" Aisha said, "Yes." Aisha then took her yellow veil and perfumed it and then sat beside the Prophet (peace be upon him) who said, "O Aisha, keep away from me, it is not your day". Aisha said, "It is Allah's Grace and He bestows it upon whomever He wants," and then she told him the whole matter and he forgave Saffiyyah. (Ibn Majah, An-Nikah, vol. 1 p.634, Cited in Muhammad Fathi Mus'ad, The Wives of the Prophet Muhammad: Their Strives and Their Lives, p.174)

it seems that striking was a misinterpretation but TURNING AWAY is the correct form of DARABA.

brother Adil,jazakullah khair for the better explanation of word" draba" for it is supported by the use of same term in case of examples.

the examples are not to beat us in that sense. (YADRIBUL AMTHAL)
