The order was not for Holy Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w.,but it was for those opportunistic people who were claiming to be the followers of Gospel but asking the judgement from another Book.
This is double standard which was not appreciated.

As'salamu Alaikum dear brother,

The Law lives in the corrupt scriptures of the Jews and Christians.  Even the Bible is entirely built on the "Law of Moses".  We have thoroughly debated this in the "Is the Bible the True Word of GOD Almighty?" debate at:

www.answering-christianity.com/is_the_bible_the_true_word_of_god_june_16_2013.wmv

The Commands of thou shalt do this and thou shall not do that are closest to the Truth.  Also the Bible's Ten Commandments and others such as "Thou shall not bear false witness, steal, worship idols, covet your neighbor's properties, commit adultery, murder, be harsh to your parents, etc..."  Like the Hadiths, they're NOT on the same level of Holiness, Divinity and Truthfulness as the Glorious Quran, but they're closest to the Truth.  For more proofs, visit:

www.answering-christianity.com/warning.htm

Also, in the Bible the Believers are commanded by GOD Almighty to separate the Laws of GOD Almighty from all other writings:

www.answering-christianity.com/deuteronomy4_2.htm

Yet, the Bible is a combination of:

1-  Laws that are attributed to GOD Almighty (i.e., GOD's Laws according to the Jews and Christians).

2-  Sayings by Prophets.

3-  Writings by men.

4-  Alterations of the texts of the entire bible and all other scriptures of theirs.

I hope this helps, Insha'Allah.

Take care,
Osama Abdallah

It was God's orders at time of Prophet Jesus. Now, things changed.

Quran: The Ultimate Reference.

Just read in context.

Noble Verses 5:46-49 above in text:

46. And We sent, following in their footsteps, Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming that which came before him in the Torah; and We gave him the Gospel, in which were guidance and light and confirming that which preceded  it of the Torah as guidance and instruction for the righteous.

47. And let the People of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed therein. And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed - then it is those who are defiantly disobedient.

48. And We have sent down to you (O Muhammad) the Book (this Qur'an) in truth, confirming the Scripture that came before it as a criterion over it. So judge between them by what Allah has revealed, and follow not their vain desires, diverging away from the Truth that has come to you. To each among you, We have prescribed a law and a clear way. If Allah willed, He would have made you one nation, but that (He) may test you in what He has given you; so strive as in a race in good deeds. The return of you (all) is to Allah; then He will inform you about that in which you used to differ.

49. And so judge (You O Muhammad) between them by what Allah has revealed and follow not their vain desires, but beware of them lest they turn you (O Muhammad) far away from some of that which Allah has send down to you.  And if they turn away, then know that Allah's Will is to punish them for some sins of theirs. And truly, most of men are Fasiqun  (rebellious and disobedient to Allah).
