Assalam alikum I was wondering if anyone can help I was wondering whether verses 27:52 and 28:58 and 22:45 are speaking in past or present tense in verse 27:52 and 28:58 it says (so these there dwellings ) the arabic word is til'ka so I was wondering whether these verses speaking in past or present tense jazzakkallah

Wa Alaikum As'salam sister,

TILKA means "these are" or "this is" (in the feminine), or "this is what".  Here are the Noble Verses in question:

[027:052]  Now such were ? their houses, - in utter ruin, ?? - because they practised wrong- doing. Verily in this is a Sign for people of knowledge.

?27:52 ? ?? ?? ?? ?? ? ?
 

[028:058]  And how many populations We destroyed, which exulted in their life (of ease and plenty)! now those ? habitations of theirs, ? after them, are deserted,- All but a (miserable) few! ?? ? ?? ?? ?? and We are their heirs!

?28:58 ?? ? ? ? ? ? ?? ? ?? ?? ?? ? ??
 

[022:045]  How many populations have We destroyed, which were given to wrong-doing? They tumbled down on their roofs. And how many wells are lying idle and neglected, and castles lofty and well-built?

?22:45 ?? ?? ? ?? ?? ?? ? ?? ? ?


We see in all of the Noble Verses above, Allah Almighty is either referring to actual ancient ruins that existed in certain places, or writings about people that were authentic, that detailed the destruction of certain people and their places.  And it seems that people back then sometimes lived inside ancient ruins.  It makes sense, since people back then were all primitive anyway.  So the ancient ruins looked similar to their current homes.


So regarding your question above:

It is speaking in both.  The people were a people of the past, and their ancient ruins or what's been documented about them were the present.

Thanks jazzakkallah but if there all in the present tense then how do we explain 27:52 when it says there houses un utter ruin destroyed how Could someone live in something destroyed unless verse 28:58 is not talking about thamud but someone else and 22:45 supports 27:52 as well because it says fallen down I mean who do you think 28:58 is mainly talking about ad thamud or sodom or saba or people of the wood shuaib people peace be upon him

And what do you mean by this sorry ( or writings about people that were authentic, that detailed the destruction of certain people and their places) do you mean something like the bible etc and when you say there ancient were similar to there houses you mean the people of mecca houses and such but the quran says they are or traces meant to be better like broken pillars and a few bricks etc in verse 40:21 and is it possible that verse 28:58 means the lands instead of houses sorry for all the questions but thanks jazzakkallah

Not all ancient ruins at the time were completely empty.  Some were and some had people occupying them.  Again, all people back then were primitive.  Therefore, it shouldn't be a surprise if people were living in some of them.  Again, Allah Almighty Said:

"....All but a (miserable) few! ?? ? ?? ?? ?? ..."

I already quoted the Noble Verse for you, above.  Also, Noble Verse 28:58 says ? HOUSES or HOMES.  So no, it is referring to actual places that were occupied.

And Noble Verse 28:58 isn't just talking about ad thamud or sodom or saba or people of the shuaib.  It is talking about all examples of the past for us to learn from.
