72 sects remain in hell for eternity?
« on: November 08, 2012, 12:04:06 PM »
Theres a hadith where the Prophet PBUH said that out of 73 sects only 1 would enter paradise. So the other 72 would the ones that still believe in allah and the Prophet PBUH but changed a bit actually enter paradise later?

As-Salamu `Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh akhi,

There is something miraculous about this as his (may Almighty Allah bless him and grant him peace) prediction came true; that is, there are currently either 72 or 73 sects of Muslims. Almighty Allah knows best, but I think this Hadith means that one sect (the one that follows his Sunnah) will be fully correct whereas others will have lots of Bid`ah (innovations in religion) in them. I don't think it means each and every person of those sects will go to Hell, because if Almigthy Allah willed, He could rescue those with sincere intentions. But of course and without a doubt, the proper sect is the original sect of Islam; that is to say, that following the Glorious Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Beloved Prophet (may Almighty Allah bless him and grant him peace) and is free of any kinds of Bid`ah (innovations in religion). As I said, Almighty Allah knows best and I am no scholar.

Thanks for the reply Ramzi. Also on the topic of sunnah and sects. Quranists say that the Quran says we only need to pray 3 times a day and not 5. Is there any verse in the quran that says 5 prayers?

Challenge them and ask them to point out to you the verse in the Glorious Qur'an that states that the Zhuhur (noon) prayer is 4 Rik`at (and they won't be able to). Thus, one should also follow the Sunnah also. In addition, Dr. Muhsin Khan interprets verse verse 4 of Suratul-Baqara like this, "And who believe in (the Quran and the Sunnah) which has been sent down (revealed) to you (Muhammad peace be upon him) and in [the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel), etc.] which were sent down before you and they believe with certainty in the Hereafter. (Resurrection, recompense of their good and bad deeds, Paradise and Hell, etc.)." He mentioned the Sunnah therein.
