In Judaism, the husband does not receive his bride as a virgin.  Her father takes it away using a piece of cloth and his finger, and then displays it to the public and boast about that his daughter is a virgin.  The Jewish societies are marred with sexual lewdness and prostitutes that a girl remaining a virgin till marriage is a great accomplishment.  If you read the Torah, every several pages there is some mention about some prostitute.  In 2 Samuel 12:7-12, GOD Almighty validated and commanded open pornography between David's wives and all men in town in broad day light as a punishment for David.   Also in the NT, Mary Magdalene was a prostitute.  Side note: Daughters inherit nothing if there is at least one son.  The oldest son inherits double the younger son.  Also in the Torah, there is singing praises about not only prostitution, but also group incest rape of brothers to their little sister:
