The punishment for cursing the parents in the New Testament is death!
The sections of this article are:
1- The punishment for cursing the parents.
2- More irrational and ridiculous statements in the New Testament.
3- Conclusion.
1- The punishment for cursing the parents:
Christians often claim that they're not obligated to follow the Old Testament. Because they are confused and their Bible is a notorious book in corruptions, man's alterations and lies, they are left with nothing but confusion and a religion of guessing.
Let us look at what Jesus said in the New Testament:
Matthew 15:1-9
1 Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from
Jerusalem and asked,
2 "Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don't wash their
hands before they eat!"
3 Jesus replied, "And why do you break the command of
God for the sake of your tradition?
4 For God said, 'Honor your father and mother' and 'Anyone who curses his
father or mother must be put to death.'
5 But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, 'Whatever help you might
otherwise have received from me is a gift devoted to God,'
6he is not to 'honor his father' with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of
your tradition.
7You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:
8 " 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.
9 They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.'"
There are few points to notice here:
1- Notice in verse 3, Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for breaking the Commands of GOD Almighty.
2- In verse4, he used the cursing of parents' punishment as an example.
3- In verses 7,8 and 9, he used a quote from the book of Isaiah in the Old Testament, to further prove that they are not following the Commands of GOD Almighty.
4- Jesus clearly had a problem with them not following the punishment of death for cursing the parents. In fact, Jesus himself said:
"Do not think that I [Jesus] have come to abolish the Law (the Old Testament) or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke or a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law (the Old Testament) until everything is accomplished. (Matthew 23:1-3, Matthew 5:17-18)"
"Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 'The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.' (Matthew 23:1-3)"
Anyway, here is what the Old Testament says about cursing parents:
Exodus 21:15
"Anyone who attacks his father or his mother must be
put to death.
Exodus 21:17
"Anyone who curses his father or mother must
be put to death.
Deuteronomy 5:16
16 "Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your
God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the
land the LORD your God is giving you.
Exodus 20:12
12 "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may
live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
So if we were to be ruled by the Church, as many of the far-right wing from the Christians wish, then does this mean that the cursing of the parents in the New Testaments must be punished with death?
Here is what Paul said regarding the ruling authority:
"The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment. (1 Corinthians 2:15)"
Now as a Muslim, I am commanded by Allah Almighty to be very kind to my parents and to
treat them with honor and respect. But no where in Islam is the punishment for getting
out of line with them is death:
"Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him, and that ye be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honour. And, out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility, and say: "My Lord! bestow on them thy Mercy even as they cherished me in childhood." (The Noble Quran, 17:23-24)"
"We have enjoined on man kindness to parents: but if they (either of them) strive (to force) thee to join with Me (in worship) anything of which thou hast no knowledge, obey them not. Ye have (all) to return to me, and I will tell you (the truth) of all that ye did. (The Noble Quran, 29:8)"
"And We have enjoined on man (to be good) to his parents: in travail upon travail did his mother bear him, and in years twain was his weaning: (hear the command), "Show gratitude to Me and to thy parents: to Me is (thy final) Goal. (The Noble Quran, 31:14)"
"We have enjoined on man kindness to his parents: In pain did his mother bear him, and in pain did she give him birth. The carrying of the (child) to his weaning is (a period of) thirty months. At length, when he reaches the age of full strength and attains forty years, he says, "O my Lord! Grant me that I may be grateful for Thy favour which Thou has bestowed upon me, and upon both my parents, and that I may work righteousness such as Thou mayest approve; and be gracious to me in my issue. Truly have I turned to Thee and truly do I bow (to Thee) in Islam." (The Noble Quran, 46:15)"
"And remember We took a covenant from the Children of Israel (to this effect): Worship none but God; treat with kindness your parents and kindred, and orphans and those in need; speak fair to the people; be steadfast in prayer; and practise regular charity. Then did ye turn back, except a few among you, and ye backslide (even now). (The Noble Quran, 2:83)"
2- More irrational and ridiculous statements in the New Testament:
Let us look at the following ridiculous statements in the New Testament:
Matthew 21:21 " Jesus replied, 'I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.'" I challenge any "faithful" believing Christian to move one brick, not a mountain with his sight or words. Have any Christian from the time of Jesus till now been able to do it?
Mark 16:17-18 "And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."
3- Conclusion:
The Bible and the real Christianity are very impractical when it comes to social laws and justice. Jesus in the New Testament left the Christians guessing as to what laws they must follow and what laws they must abandon. No wonder 95% of Christian women world-wide lose their virginities before marriage. They don't see any clear-cut commands to direct them as Muslims (Isaiah 56:5: Muslim is the future believers' name. Sons and daughters titles will be "no more") see GOD Almighty's Divine Commands in Islam. All the Christians see is rubbish and irrational statements that are too vast to interpret.
So the unanswered question in this article still remains: What is the punishment for cursing the parents in the New Testament?!
If it's death, then Christians have no right to reject following the Old Testament. If it's not death, then what else is it, and why?
If we can't even answer this one, then what good is Christianity?
Back to Incoherence and Incompleteness in the Bible.
Contradictions and History of Corruption in the Bible.
Christians are commanded to follow the Old Testament.
The law of apostasy in Christianity.
