The Male Sperm determines the Sex of the Fetus:

The Glorious Quran says that the male-sperm:

1.  Is a piercing one.
2.  It also determines the gender.

[053:045]  And that HE creates the pairs, male and female,
[053:046]  From a sperm drop when it that is emitted and is penetrating

تمنى;

‏53:45 وانه خلق الزوجين الذكر والانثى
‏53:46 من نطفة اذا تمنى

AND

[075:037]  Was he not a drop of fluid, emitted forth (and is penetrating) يمنى ?
[075:038  The he became a clot, then ALLAH gave him shape and perfected him.
[075:039]  Then HE made of him a pair;
 the male and female
.

‏75:37 الم يك نطفة من مني يمنى
‏75:38 ثم كان علقة فخلق فسوى
‏75:39 فجعل منه الزوجين الذكر والانثى

Pay attention to the definitions of تمنى and يمنى.  Both are the same word.  And notice how Allah Almighty said He created THE MALE AND THE FEMALE.  He could've just said Mankind.  But no, here Allah Almighty specified both genders.  And تمنى and يمنى is used for:

1-  Penetration.
2-  Cutting through.
3-  Piercing.

They even use the word for farmers when they insert their arms inside the cows' anus and vagina to help them with constipation and to check on fertilization.  They also use it for stabbing and cutting with a blade!  We know that the male sperm is a piercing one.  I even provided the pictures in the article.

STUNNING MIRACLE!

This is why I find it STUNNINGLY amazing that Allah Almighty said in the same Noble Verses that He created THE MALE AND THE FEMALE.  He didn't just say He created man as He did in many other Noble Verses.  Here He specified the genders.

Also pay attention regarding Allah Almighty's uses of خلقنا and جعلنا .

1-  Allah Almighty's Divine Claim in the Noble Quran:

The Holy Quran and Islam are filled with scientific statements and notions.  These are statements of Allah Almighty describing how He created things on earth and in the Universe.  What's most amazing is that all of these scientific statements and notions had been proven to be in perfect agreement with science and our modern-day scientific discoveries.  Allah Almighty made the Noble Quran be Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) Everlasting Divine Miracle and proof for Prophethood.  The Holy Book certainly stood the test of time 1,500 years ago with Its Claims, Prophecies and Miraculous language eloquence, and it does again and again in our day today with Its overwhelming agreement with science and discoveries that were not known to man 1,500 years ago.

Allah Almighty Said: "We will show them Our signs in the Universe and inside their selves, until it will become quite clear to them that it is the truth. Is it not sufficient as regards your Lord that He is a witness over all things?  (The Noble Quran, 41:53)"

With this said, let us now look at the following Noble Verse from the Holy Quran:

Noble Verse(s) 86:5-86:7
Yusuf Ali:

[086:005]  Now let man but think from what he is created!

[086:006]  He is created from a drop emitted-

[086:007]  Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs:

Arabic (from right to left):

86:5 فلينظر الانسان مم خلق

86:6 خلق من ماء دافق

86:7 يخرج من بين الصلب والترائب

Article #1:

Noble Verses 86:5-7:

(The following synopsis is from the work of Dr. Munir Munshey that he contributed to this website)

  • "Let man ponder upon the substance he is created from!  (He is) created from the surging fluid, which springs from between the SULB (spine) and the TARA'EB!  (The Noble Quran, 86:5-7)"

  • Between 95 to 98% of the semen consists of fructose, prostaglandin hormones, metal and salt ions, lipids, steroid hormones, enzymes, basic amines, and amino acids.  All of those are produced from the glands located in the abdomen.  Semen is stored in vesicles (vesi-kuls) that lie in the abdomen.  From there it is ejaculated during coitus.  Now bear in mind also that semen is created from water, and the water is also supplied from different parts of the body.

  • "Bayn al-Sulb Wa Al-Tara'eb"

  • Sulb = backbone, loin, lower back; Tara'eb = (among its meanings are) ribs, breastbone, chest.  Bain = between, among, amidst.  It is similar to saying "Somewhere between the front and the back."

  • The seminal vesicles (vesi-kuls) are anterior to the sacrum and coccyx (kok-six) (which are in the lower back and loin) and the ribs are anterior to the seminal vesicles (vesi-kuls).  If one was to draw a line from the tip of the coccyx (kok-six) to the upper portion of the seminal vesicle (vesi-kul), and extend the line forward, it will catch the ribcage.  The seminal vesicles from which the semen spurts out during coitus lies between the ribs and the coccyx.  Thus we find the Noble Quran to be 100% in perfect harmony with Science.
  • Also, according to Dr. Zakir Naik:

  • In embryonic stages, the reproductive organs of the male and female, ie. the testicles and the ovaries, begin their development near the kidney exactly between the spinal column and the eleventh and twelfth ribs.  Later they descend.  The female gonads (ovaries) stop in the pelvis while the male gonads continue their decent before birth to reach the scrotum outside the body through the inguinal (ing-woo-nil) canal.  Even after the embryonic stage after the decent of the reproductive organ, these organs receive their nerve supply and blood supply from the Aorta (eyor-ta) and lymphatic (lym-fa-tic) drainage which is in the area between the backbone (spinal column) and the ribs.
  •

TARA'EB means all of our modern-day technical terms:

    Also, according to

    1.  Lisan Al-Arab [1], Book 1, Page 220-223.

Tara'eb (ترائب) is plural of Tareebah (تريبة), and they are derived from Turb (تُرْبْ).

1-  Tara'eb (ترائب): means  ترابة: تلك لا تُدرك بالنَّظر دقةً   TURAABAH, which means something that can not be seen with the eye.

  • It is in other words microscopic.

  • 2-  Al-Tirbatu (التِّرْبَةُ):  Is derived from ترائب  and it means  الكروش كلها  the entire tummy or abdomen.

  • و قيل الكروش كلها تسمى تَرِبَةً لأنها يحصل فيها التَّرابُ من المرتع

It is said that the (females') enlarged tummies are named TARIBATAN (تَرِبَةً) because التَّرابُ (Al-Taraabu) happens in it from sexual consummation and fertilization (المرتع).

  • Note: TARA'EB here refers to the anatomies, inside the human body, that deal with sexual consummation, fertilization, pregnancy and birth.

  • See also: Al-Mawrid dictionary [4], Arabic-English section, Page 1016, and Al-Qamoos Al-Muheet [2], Page 705 for more definitions and proofs on المرتع.:

  • Marta'aa (مرتع):  means خصيب, تخصيب  fertile, fertilized, fertilization, breeding.

  • Marta'aa (مرتع):  Breeding, fertile.
  •

3-  Turbatu (تربة):  Is derived from ترائب  and it means موضع position or location.

  • Atarib (أتارب):  Is a plural of تربة  and it means مواضع positions or locations.

  • So TARA'EB also means different positions and locations in the abdomen.
  •
4-  Al-Turtub (الترتب): means الأمر الثابت  a steady process, event, affair or business.

5-  Tara'eb (ترائب): means TARIBA (ترب) to have THE BEST AND MOST HONORABLE OF SOMETHING.

  • Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, told one of his companions: ترب نحرك, فقتل الرجل شهيداً  TARIBA your death, and then the man died a martyr (the best and most honorable death).
  •

6-  Tara'eb (ترائب): means متروب: كل ما يصلح  MATROOB, which means everything that is put together or fixed.

7-  Tara'eb (ترائب): means أترب: استغنى و كثر ماله  ATRABA, which means became rich.

  • Tara'eb (ترائب): means المُتْرِبْ: الغني  AL-MUTRIB means the rich.

  • Tara'eb (ترائب): means being blessed and having abundance.

  • تربت يداك  May your hands be blessed and full.

  • إن قولهم تربت يداك يريد به استغنت يداك  Their saying  تربت يداك  means that may your hands be full.

  • التّتريب: كثرة المال  AL-TATREEB means the abundance of wealth.
  •

  • 8-  Tara'eb (ترائب): means  متربة: لاصق  MUTRABAH means something that is sticking.

9-  Tara'eb (ترائب): means عظام الصدر  The chest's bones.

10-  Tara'eb (ترائب): means صلب الرجل  The loins and gonads, spinal column, back bone of  man.

    So what do we see?

We see that to the Arabs of old, the meaning of TARA'EB in the human anatomy varied.  It meant

    1. Something that could not be seen with the naked eyes.

    2. Different anatomies that are inside the abdomen area and the human body in general.

    3. TARA'EB refers to the anatomies, inside the human body, that deal with sexual consummation, fertilization, pregnancy and birth (مرتع).

    4. Different positions and locations inside the body.

    5. A steady process and event.

    6. A rich process that involves many things.

    7. Something that is quite honorable and powerful.

    8. Something that is mixed and mingled and is the best., which is basically and end-result of very complex and thorough process, such as production of semen and sperms.

    9. Different parts of the human-body.

This is important, because it is clear that the locations of the TARA'EB varied from the head all the way to the feet.  Certainly, the origination of the sperms and the semen come from many parts of the body.  The nerves system, the brain, the backbone, the DNA, the blood, the water inside the body are few examples of the anatomies and processes that supply the sperms and the semen liquid, to enable them to carry *copies* of your

    1. DNA.

    2. Characteristics (in looks and even in personality).

    3. Other properties and special and unique features that your body has such as:

    4. Strength.
    5. Disabilities if any.
    6. Skeletal and Muscular structures and formations.
    7. Height, Width
    8. Skin, hair and eye colors.
    9. And many many other features.

    10. All of these are ultimately contained in that single microscopic sperm that fertilizes that female's egg.

    11. Indeed, all Praise and Glory are due to Allah Almighty Alone!

And it is also important to note that TARA'EB also meant, as I mentioned, something that is mixed or mingled and is the best or the most honorable thing, and is also very rich in substance.

Allah Almighty's use of TARA'EB and Back bone were indeed Miraculous Choices, because they encompassed and covered all of the areas in our anatomy that generate the sperms and the semen.  TARA'EB means things that can't be seen with the eye, and it also refers to different areas of our anatomy.  Certainly, the generation of the sperms and the semen are very complex processes and the medical and embryological definitions and terms and meaning that we have for each anatomy and activity, today, did not exist 1,500 years ago.  That is why TARA'EB was used, because it is the Term that encompasses all of our modern-day medical and embryological terms.

    Article #2:

    From http://www.qurancommentary.com/comm86_7.html:

86:7 coming out from between the backbone and the breastbone.

86:7 The verse seems to allude to the origin of the gonads in a manner that can was easily understood by the contemporary Arabs and by people in the following millennium. The targeted audience of the verse is clearly the people of the later time when they would have clear understanding of the origin of gonads. The Qur’ān casually disclosed a scientific marvel that remained obscure for thousands of years. The origin of the gonads is considered to be from dorsal coelomic epithelia and underlying mesenchymal cells, however this fact could not have been explained to the early audience unless more generic terms, like the words sulb (lit. backbone) and tarā’ib (ribs), are used. The purpose however, is to directs readers’ attention to embryonic and more precisely to evolutionary origin of gonads from cells of two different origins: the primordial germ cells derived from the pole cells, and the somatic cells originated from the mesodermal layer of abdominal segments. During the embryonic development the gonadal precursors and pole cells migrate until the mesodermal cells partially ensheath the arriving cells, and the cluster coalesces into the gonad.

    Article #3:

    From http://www.answering-christianity.com/munir_munshey/semenproduction_rebuttal.htm:

The semen contains many things.  Between 95 to 98% of it consists of fructose, prostaglandin hormones, metal and salt ions, lipids, steroid hormones, enzymes, basic amines, and amino acids.  All those are produced from the glands located in abdomen.   Between 2 to 5% of it consists of the sperms produced in the testicles.....

During coitus that liquid springs from the abdomen (“between the ribcage and the spine”).  That is a scientific fact!....

Semen is stored in vesicles that lie in the abdomen.  From there it is ejaculated during coitus.  Lay people still think that the ejaculate comes from the testicles.

The Quran does not say where semen is produced.  Just where it comes from during coitus!

In fact, if the Quran had said that the semen is produced in the abdomen, (“between the ribcage and the spine”), and not the testicles, it would still be accurate.  At least 95 to 98% accurate!  Only 2-5% of the semen is contributed by the testicles.  The rest is produced in the glands located in the pelvic cavity.

But the Quran does not say where the semen is produced, because the Quran is not 98% accurate.  It is 100% ACCURATE!......

What does the Quran really say?

Question:   What is it that man is created from?  Answer:

(He is) created from the surging fluid!  87:6

The Exact Arabic words are just four: “Khuliqa minm Maain  Daafiq”

    Khuliqa = created ;  Minm  = from

Maain =  liquid, fluid, juice, water ;  Daafiq =  anything that flows out, gushes out, pours out, wells out, sheds.  (From the Hans Wehr Arabic to English Dictionary)

The Standard Arabic to Arabic dictionaries also mention: anything that surges or bounces. For instance a “daafiq” ball would be a “bouncing ball”

“Maain Daafiq” is a surging fluid, gushing water, the liquid that pours out, or any combination of the words for “maain” and “daafiq” mentioned above.

Famous translators have rendered these four words as:

“Created from a drop emitted” (Yusuf Ali). “Created from a gushing fluid” (Pickthal). “Water pouring forth” (Shakir). “Created from a fluid poured forth” (Zafraullah khan). “Spurt of water” (Hamidullah).

Arabic speakers can really appreciate the beauty of these four words!

The Quran does not use the word ‘sperm’, nor the word ‘semen’, nor does it say anything about the production of semen or sperm.

The emphasis is clearly on the word ‘daafiq’, the surging, the welling out, the pouring forth, the shedding, and the flowing out of the fluid.

Simply put, it is the ejaculate that fertilizes.  And that is the simple truth. The simple scientific truth!

Can the Sperm alone fertilize the human ovum?

Sperm alone cannot even move very well.  They need energy to swim to the egg and penetrate it.  That is provided by fructose, a sugar produced by the seminal vesicles.

Prostaglandin hormones are needed to suppress an immune response by the female against the foreign semen.

Zinc is needed to stabilize the DNA of the sperms.

Metal and salt ions are needed to make the pH of the vaginal cavity favorable for the sperm to survive.

Lipids, steroid hormones, enzymes, basic amines, and amino acids are also needed to perform vital functions.

The ejaculated fluid has all that is needed, including the sperms (2-5% sperms, 95-98% other ingredients).  The statement of the Quran is absolutely correct!

Where does the semen spring from during coitus?

During coitus semen is ejaculated from the two storage areas called the seminal vesicles, and NOT FROM THE TESTICLES.

Let man look at (and bear in mind) the substance he is created from!  (He is) created from the surging fluid, which springs from between the spine and the ribs!  86:5-7

What is definitely excluded is the scrotal pouch, which is below the spine!   Semen does not spring from there during coitus!

Also excluded is the thorax, since it is not between the ribcage and the spine, but is rather inside the ribcage.

The area not excluded is the abdomen and the pelvic cavity!  The Quran is 100% correct.  Semen is stored in the seminal vesicles to be ejaculated during coitus.

The exact words of the Quran

The exact Arabic words: Bain usSulbe watTaraib

Sulb = backbone, loin, lower back; Taraib = ribs, breastbone, chest.

    Bain = between, among, amidst

It is a phrase in Arabic that is similar to the English phrase, “somewhere between the front and the back”

It would mean that the semen springs from “somewhere between the front and the back” of the body.  In other words, somewhere from inside the body!

If one was to insist upon the literal meaning, one would still find that the Quran is 100% correct literally, too.  The seminal vesicles are anterior to the sacrum and coccyx (lower back, loin) and the ribs are anterior to the seminal vesicles.

If one was to draw a line from the tip of the coccyx, to the upper portion of the seminal vesicle _ either one of the two_ and extend the line forward it will catch the ribcage.

The seminal vesicles from which the semen spurts out during coitus, lies between the ribs and the coccyx!

(He is) created from the surging fluid!  Which springs from between the spine and the ribs!  86:6-7

Why does the Quran simply not say, Abdominal cavity?

Only a creator of the universe can reveal words that remain precise and accurate for thousands of years even in this changing world.   Every generation feels as if the Quran was revealed specifically for them, and only yesterday.

That is the miracle of the Quran!  Its words seem always to be in agreement with what science has observed and determined with certainty.

    An example!

The Quran asked the believers to say the following before mounting a horse, a camel or any other animal.

“Supreme is He Who tamed this for us. We could not have done it (otherwise).  And we are certainly going to return to our Lord!” 43:13-14

When we get aboard a plane we get a feeling that these words were revealed in the jet age!  The above is just a translation.  The original Arabic words are more poignant!

The statements of the Quran about the creation of the world, and about the relativity of time and space are amazingly the modern concepts.

People in the seventh century AD had their own ideas about how human beings are conceived.  Ibn Ishaq and others who lived in those times found the words of the Quran in compliance with the scientific knowledge of their time.

Ibn Kathir, was a scholar of the 13th century AD, and scientific perceptions had changed by then.  The wordings of the Quran still seemed in sync with the latest scientific knowledge of his time.

Dr. Bucaille, a non-Muslim scholar was amazed at what he found in the Quran.

In the modern times we find the words of the Marvelous Majestic Quran amazingly in agreement with the 21st century knowledge.

That is possible because the words of the Quran exist exactly as revealed.   The language of the Quran is alive and well!  It is one of the six official languages of the United Nations.   The original language of the bible was Aramaic which is dead as a doornail.

The Hindu and the Buddhist scriptures were originally written in languages whose names too have been forgotten!

    Poetic license?

No literature in any language can equal the diction and eloquence of the Quran!  It has rhythm, meter, and a sing-song quality.  Yet it is not the work of a poet!

Poets achieve excellence by resorting to exaggeration.  The Quran achieved the highest standard of eloquence and diction without any exaggeration.  Everything is literally accurate!

That is what fills the believer with confidence.  Just like the discourse of the Quran about the matters of this life, its description of the afterlife HAS TO BE just as accurate.

Consider chapter 86 of the Quran (surah Najam).

This chapter has 17 very short verses; each verse has between 2 to 6 words.  They have a rhythm and meter, and they rhyme in a specific manner.  Yet the subject discussed is so profound!  The Quran does not stray one bit from its message.

This is the subject matter of the 86th chapter, a total of less than 65 words in Arabic.

In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Beneficent

By the sky, and the night star!  How would you know what the night star is?  A bright star!  There is no soul without a guardian over it.  Let man look at the substance he is created from!  Created from the surging fluid which springs from between the spine and the ribs!  Indeed, He is capable of bringing man back to life (after his death).

That day secrets would be laid bare.  (That day) man shall have neither strength, nor any helpers.  (I swear) by the sky that repeatedly sends rain down.  And by the earth that splits (and lets plants emerge).  Indeed, this Qur’an is the statement that sifts (right from wrong).  It is not an idle tale! They are hatching a nefarious plot.  But I, too, shall devise a scheme!  So give the unbelievers a little respite. Deal with them gently for a while.

Remember, this is just a translation!  The original words can put a believer in an ecstatic state.

Mr. Shamoum quoted the translation of just about 15 of these words.  These words ask you to look at how insignificant is the beginning of man.  Would God have any difficulty resurrecting such an insignificant being?

The entire world of diction and eloquence should fall prostrate before these words!  Leave aside the rest of the verses in that chapter, or the rest of the chapters of the Quran! That is not an exaggeration either.

Does Semen Emanate From Between the Ribs and the Back?  From the Understanding Islam web site.

3-  In the Sayings of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him:

Let us look at the following Hadith (Saying) of our beloved Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him:

Thauban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him), said:   "While I was standing beside the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) one of the rabbis of the Jews came and said: Peace be upon you, O Muhammad. I pushed him back with a push that he was going to fall. Upon this he said: Why do you push me? I said: Why don't you say: O Messenger of Allah? The Jew said: We call him by the name by which he was named by his family. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: My name is Muhammad with which I was named by my family. The Jew said: I have come to ask you (something). The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Should that thing be of any benefit to you, if I tell you that? He (the Jew) said: I will lend my ears to it. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) drew a line with the help of the stick that he had with him and then said: Ask (whatever you like). Thereupon the Jew said: Where would the human beings be on the Day when the earth would change into another earth and the heavens too (would change into other heavens)? The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: They would be in darkness beside the Bridge. He (the Jew) again said: Who amongst people would be the first to cross (this bridge).? He said: They would be the poor amongst the refugees. The Jew said: What would constitute their breakfast when they would enter Paradise? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: A caul of the fish-liver. He (the Jew) said. What would be their food alter this? He (the Holy Prophet) said: A bullock which was fed in the different quarters of Paradise would be slaughtered for them. He (the Jew) said: What would be their drink? He (the Holy Prophet) said: They would be given drink from the fountain which is named" Salsabil". He (the Jew) said: I have come to ask you about a thing which no one amongst the people on the earth knows except an apostle or one or two men besides him. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Would it benefit you if I tell you that? He (the Jew) said: I would lend ears to that. He then said: I have come to ask you about the child. He (the Holy Prophet) said: The reproductive substance of man is white and that of woman (i. e. ovum central portion) yellow, and when they have sexual intercourse and the male's substance (chromosomes and genes) prevails upon the female's substance (chromosomes and genes), it is the male child that is created by Allah's Decree, and when the substance of the female prevails upon the substance contributed by the male, a female child is formed by the Decree of Allah. The Jew said: What you have said is true; verily you are an Apostle. He then returned and went away. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: He asked me about such and such things of which I have had no knowledge till Allah gave me that. (Translation of Sahih Muslim, The Book of Menstruation (Kitab Al-Haid), Book 003, Number 0614)

Corpus Luteum.—After the discharge of the ovum the lining of the follicle is thrown into folds, and vascular processes grow inward from the surrounding tissue. In this way the space is filled up and the corpus luteum formed. It consists at first of a radial arrangement of yellow cells with bloodvessels and lymphatic spaces, and later it merges with the surrounding stroma.

Does the color of semen give any indication of fertility?  Does it make a difference if semen is clear or white?

The color of sperm is usually a whitish yellow and semitranslucent.  The color does not seem to play a role in fertility.

See how the male sperms and female eggs interact with each others to determine the fetus' gender.  It is similar to what Prophet Muhammad claimed 1400 years ago:

    How Is Sex Determined?

Most of the time, an embryo growing in the womb fully develops into either a male or a female with all the appropriate body parts and, many scientists believe, a mindset programmed according to its gender. What determines its gender -- in most cases -- are its sex chromosomes: two X chromosomes in the nucleus of its original egg cell and it will become a female; a Y and an X chromosome and it will become a male. But exactly what happens in the womb to make a boy or a girl? This interactive feature illustrates the astonishing changes that occur during the first 16 weeks of development.

    5-  Conclusion:

Again, the Holy Quran and Islam are filled with scientific statements and notions.

Certainly, the generation of the sperms and the semen are very complex processes and the technical terms that we have for each anatomy and activity did not exist 1,500 years ago.  That is why TARA'EB was used, because it is the Term that encompasses all of our modern-day technical terms.

The Holy Quran, again and again, have proven Itself to be the True Divine Holy Book from Allah Almighty.  Indeed, all Praise and Glory are due to Allah Almighty Alone for making the Noble Quran and the Divine Inspirations that He Sent to Prophet Muhammad be the Perfect and Everlasting Miracle, for us humans, out of all of His Divine Miracles!  And may Allah Almighty send His Peace, Mercy and Blessings upon our Beloved and Blessed Prophet, Teacher and Role Model, Muhammad.  Ameen.

    From www.answering-christianity.com/blog/index.php/topic,2245.msg9932.html#msg9932:

The Male Sperm determines the Sex of the Fetus:

The Glorious Quran says that the male-sperm:

    1.  Is a piercing one.
    2.  It also determines the gender.

[053:045]  And that HE creates the pairs, male and female,
[053:046]  From a sperm drop when it that is emitted and is penetrating

    تمنى;

‏53:45 وانه خلق الزوجين الذكر والانثى
    ‏53:46 من نطفة اذا تمنى

    AND

[075:037]  Was he not a drop of fluid, emitted forth (and is penetrating) يمنى ?
[075:038  The he became a clot, then ALLAH gave him shape and perfected him.
    [075:039]  Then HE made of him a pair;
     the male and female
